So I can't believe no one's posted this thread yet. Anyone else seen it? It's waaaay better than Pirates.
Yrael2007-07-03 07:29:29
I was extremely disappointed.

I don't really like Transformers. No hard feelings toward them, I just don't like them. I'm pretty neutral towards mecha in general, but there are usually endearing traits beyond that. Transformers is really lacking in any of them, in my opinion.

I never watched the original show, so I had no expectations at all. I was also watching it with a guy that has been obsessing over this movie since it was announced forever ago so I suppose it's also possible I was affected by his enthusiasm.

I really liked the way the animation was done, and it had enough funny bits thrown in to keep me entertained between the giant-robot-butt-kicking scenes. Plus, I'm still bitter about Pirates (which was decent, but nowhere as good as I'd hoped.)

Shrek the Third > all.

(lolright)

I saw it last night, loved it.

I'm only sad that the transformers did not look anything like the originals. But I knew that going in, so I was able to enjoy the movie.

Although there was this one line, which I completely hated and they didn't need it (practically ruined the movie for me.) (it was basically an Area 51 rip off line)

I can't wait to see this. D:

I've been looking forward to it forever.

Don't go expecting Transformers as much as something in the genre of Independence Day.

...except better.

They're doing a new cartoon, which is being done by the people who did Teen Titans. Same art-style, and they're going to be more like a super-hero team, mainly fighting evil humans. I'm sort of in the middle on it, because I liked Teen Titans, but I grew up with Transformers, which I've already seen them kill multiple times.

Original Transformers was awesome. And Beast Wars was actually really good too. But the rest sucked. I 'm not sure I want to go see the movie though, just because its my childhood that's on the line.
Sylphas2007-07-04 07:22:02
That's pretty much the reason I skipped TMNT. Seeing a bit of the new version of the cartoon turned me off to any modern Turtle revival.

I saw it and thought it was awesome!! Granted I only watched Transformers/played with them occasionally as a child so I didn't have some huge expectations. The movie had awesome special effects and was pretty funny. Plus, Shia LeBeouf, hoooooooootttttttt.
Saran2007-07-04 09:42:57
I really liked the movie but some things just didn't sit right like after watching beast wars which said that optimus has been on earth since... ever and the allspark as an object.

Tell Raiha that and maybe she'll go see it with me. She's convinced that it's going to be a horrible movie.

I owned a ton of the toys when I was little, but most of my Transformers experiance comes from Beast Wars, which I thought was -very- good. There was some amazing character development done throughout that series, especially with Dinobot. <3 Plus, the animation was really great for its time. I do remember watching the original series a few times though, but it was on when I was very little, only had 3 TV channels, and the one it was on didn't come in very good. XD

I didn't enjoy the show that followed when they left the planet though. Anyone remember that one? It was set directly after Beast Wars, when they finally escaped and landed back on their home planet. Then their animal transformations got some technological upgrades, but the Deceptacons when all out Machine. It was okay for a few episodes, but didn't really compare to Beast Wars. And I didn't really like Transformers Armada, that cartoon that was on a while back.

Teen Titans was amazing though, hopefully the new Transformers will be too.

I'm going to see it, but aside from awesome special effects, I'm not expecting much.

Granted, the effects look to be worth most of the ticket price. Also, Shea (Shia?) is a dorky kid. He was good in I, Robot mainly because he played a dorky kid as well.

Also, I liked Pirates 3. I liked it because I was expecting an exact clone of Pirates 2, which was a bad clone of Pirates 1. I was really happy that they only rehashed the incredibly funny jokes, and not every frickin' joke imaginable.

Anyways, I'm going to see Transformers, and I expect to be blown away by the special effects, but not by the acting or story.

Edit: Dude, Beast Wars pwned. Optimus as a gorilla ftw. The sequal to Beast Wars was Beast Machines, btw.
Daganev2007-07-04 18:48:33
Wow, beastwars was after my time. sad.gif Didn't even know it was the same as transformers (I thought it was just a vague ripoff as I never saw it or had the toys)

I thought that the allspark was always a giant cube, and thats what the energy cubes they were always fighting over was. Atleast, thats what I remember from the original transformers the movie (where optimus dies at the end).

I wonder how many people recognize the direct quotes from the original movie/tv show.

I guess one benefit of the new robots/cars is that there was no threat on my childhood memories.

Optimus died in the beginning of the movie, how could you forget. wink.gif

I expect the movie to be great, will see it on Saturday. Doesn't matter they changed transformers, they had to for live action movie.

Well, everyone has a limit of what they can accept, personally I'd find it silly if such a huge robot could transform into a handgun and no amount of CG could change it.

Besides, I treat the movie as a variation, not the adaptation. Because that's what it actually is.

I wonder if there's gonna be a sequel.

Ahh, thats what you meant.

I was talking about the cars that they actually transform into. Its all a bunch of product placement and modern cars. So Bumblebee is now a camero, (though they have him parked next to a yellow bug for a brief second, which I took as a small "we are sorry, VW wouldn't pay us enough."

I'll wait for more people to have seen the movie before I start talking about the actual content though.
