Why would anyone want to quit caffeine anyway?
Sylphas2007-07-06 01:27:21
Because it's probably not good for you to be constantly taking a stimulant? Also, as I said, in my case it makes me tired, which sucks.
Acrune2007-07-06 01:28:42
Chew gum (sugar-free) when you want something sweet, drink water when you're thirsty. If you're out, don't buy bottled water (its the biggest scam ever, $1 for water ohmy.gif ), buy diet something, or coke zero is really tasty and comes in flavors now. Don't worry about the scary things in diet soda, everything is bad for you, just moderate.
Ixion2007-07-06 01:32:14
Find another addiction to replace it, like smoking.

/worst advice ever.
Yrael2007-07-06 01:39:14
SMoking isn't bad if you're one of the lucky ones (That is to say, who aren't going to develop things)

Mum and Dad have both smoked since they were teenagers, and mum's in good shape, Dad still goes canyoning and abseiling on a regular basis.

What is with all the hate towards caffeine? I -love- that stuff. biggrin.gif I mean, what do you have against it? It has been known to lead to some heart problems, but that's drinking like 3 cups of -coffee- a day.

Pop has far less caffeine than most people think. It's mostly a placebo effect. People are like "OMG, coke has caffeine", then they drink one and stay up forever. Really though, coffee has tons and tons more than pop. Pop really isn't that significant.

I mean, I'm not saying I don't drink too much caffeine, I do. I work in a coffee shop, and I drink a couple cups of regular blend coffee, each with two shots of espresso (a shot of espresso is about the caffeine equivalent of 3 or 4 cups of regular)...So that's like the caffeine equivalent of over 10 cups of coffee. :S

So yeah...if all you drink is a couple pops a day, don't worry about the caffeine.

Like Phred said, it's the sugar that will get you.

Oh, I dunno, maybe because of it's Pharmacology and adverse side effects?

Cola costs about $1.50 for a 20oz bottle--ounce for ounce it's about the same. Anyway, the cost shouldn't matter if your more concerned for your health. I agree that bottled water is more expensive than filtering it from the tap, but I'd rather pay a little more for water--I won't use financial excuses to drink the less healthy beverage. I also refuse to overeat when I get an insane portion at a restaurant--I can say "people are starving in other countries", but I'm not gonna make myself more obese when they give me a 1200-1500 calorie plate.

True, Coke and Pepsi don't have as much caffeine and the sugar is more dangerous long-term, but there are people who drink 3-4 bottles of mountain dew, and some people go crazy with it. Look at this store at ThinkGeek http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/ A whole Caffeine category. Jeez.
Acrune2007-07-06 01:44:09
Stangmar is a big mountain dew drinker though, thats rather caffeinated tongue.gif

..yeah, see, I'm fairly sure more than a few people in this thread are on their 3rd cup of black for the hour.

Mountain Dew has Brominated Vegetable Oil, which always makes me think of the Green Bromides in game. I consider the influencing system a great big advertisement for Mountain Dew, and I wonder if Estarra or Roark were thinking of this when making the game. laugh.gif

Psh. Just the quart of chocolate milk I drink at lunch most days has 840 calories. Of course, that's usually my only meal, so it's not as bad as it might sound. Hmm.

Exactly. I'll pay money for something that isn't free from a fountain near by tongue.gif If I want water, I'll take it for free wink.gif

What adverse side effects? Caffeine is perfectly innocuous unless you're taking in a preposterous amount of it every day (Considerably more than three espressos a day, every day, for a regular coffee drinker.) It's been correlated with a slew of positive effects. It's like cocaine, just legal and a lot less inconvenient!

Bottled water is for people living in cholera-infested areas and chumps. Filtered tap water is, health-wise, identical. Only point to bottled water is so you can get sparkling water, or if you're one of those freaks who actually like drinking water (In which case you should buy perrier).

It's just caffeine. It's not crack.

Unless your taking huge amounts, like a whole pot of coffee, your fine with caffeine. Your body quickly becomes imune to the effects. unless of course you start higher doses again.

and to help people see how much caffeine things have - a large list!

A whole pot of coffee is nothing, unless you drink it real fast or snort the equivalent amount of caffeine tablets.

moon mist and the stuff like that all faygo drinks are non cafinee or what ever, and they dont taste bad rocken rye or something is rather good. also its like 50c a bottle here.
Noola2007-07-06 06:52:14
I love caffiene. Good stuff. I usually drink like 3 cups of coffee a day and prolly about 4-6 diet cokes. I also typically drink about 3 liters of water (yes, bottled! I can't stand the taste of tap water, I just can't) and a glass or two of juice and/or milk a day too.

I barely drink a soda every other day or so, but I'm not a terribly active person. I like tap water, oddly enough. All that 'fresh and clean' spring water and bottled water..it just doesn't taste right! unsure.gif
