Oh ye gods, a 'shipper war...I didn't think I'd ever see that here...thought Gilmore Girls going off the air would be the last time on the Internet I'd ever see that kinda thing...

I was thinking the same, they have a lot of great moments, both in the books and in the movie.
I just don't understand, she set Harry up to where he could have had an interesting and fun relationship with just about every other girl in the book; Hermione, Luna, Cho, the quidditch girls, etc.
She put him with the one possible weird pairing.

I really agree with you. That was one of the very few things I hate with a passion about the books.
Sylphas2007-07-15 22:22:14
Why is it weird? Ginny has always liked Harry, and her character has been fleshed out enough at this point to make it work. Hell, Ron was almost expecting it by the end of book 5.
Verithrax2007-07-15 22:22:30
Jesus Christ you people, Luna was like a fourth grader or something.

She's a slut.

She's had what, three boyfriends in six books? She's a teenager for goddess's sake, it's not like she's slept with them all.

I'm pretty sure she did.
Sylphas2007-07-15 22:36:04
Because she was sleeping with the one she had when was 14, that's a great assumption.

Why not? She's a teenager isn't she? Trying to satisfy the lust she had for Harry.

The one thing that upset me about the fight in the ministry was the weird smoke-travel thing. It's not Apparition; we saw that with Fred and George. It's not explained, there's no basis for it in the books, and we're just left wondering what the hell it is. We don't see it anywhere else. Since when can Order members fly?
Personally, I think using Apparition would have made for a far more fast-paced and cool-looking battle, but that's just me. If they desperately wanted to use the smoke-thing in the battle, they had the opportunity to set it up with Fred and George by having them "smoke" into Harry's room in Grimmauld Place. Of course, then they have to have that smoke thing going on every time someone Apparates, but being consistently wrong is better than being inexplicably, inconsistently wrong.

I don't think she's fleshed out at all, really. Other characters have been mentioned far fewer times, and I feel like I know them more.
All Ginny was for a while was an obsession with Harry, and that sort of put her in the light of being a little girl with a crush on someone older than her. And she still seems that way, which makes it weird.

Apparation would have been a bit too DBZ in my opinion. And the fighting might have been disjointed.

I do agree with the whole smoke thing being annoying. There is nothing that I can find in the book about it, and if it is Apparition, how come there is no smoke when Fred and George did it.
I dont personally have a problem with Ginny and Harry getting together, it has been setup through the other books, and to me it is a perfectly normal relationship, it has been obvious that Ginny has had a thing for Harry all the way a long.
I am going to see the movie again on Friday night, and I will be interested to see if i notice any other differences when i see it for the second time.

If by "the smoke thing" you mean the "turn to fog and do a cool flyby around" then no, that's not apparition. That's something the screenwriters made up to remind us all that they're WIZARDS and it's MAGIC. Because in our culture nowadays we're all too bloody stupid to keep that in mind without the fact being shoved into our faces every godamn shot of the movie.

I sense that you are not happy about these special effects that they keep adding in. It does come accross rather like they think the audiences are filled with idiots, who came to see the movies not knowing that the cast were all witches or wizards !!!
I am not sure if they wanted to treat us all like idiots, or if they just thought "a magic movie gives us the ability to use all of these special effects that we have...so lets use them all at once!!"

She's only a year younger, and that shows more and more as the books progress. She came off as a little girl with a crush because that's all she was; Harry was a celebrity visiting her house, and she didn't have the nerve to face him. As she gets to know him, that goes away.

I just saw it. It was pretty good, for what it was. Don't go see it expecting it's going to be 100, or even a 90% book-clone though.
Near the end, the thing I was most interested in was the fight, and Dumbledoor’s use of the golden statues.
After the fight in the book all the broken statues were lying around. The ministry still got beat up in the movie, but at the end they showed all the statues and the fountain still whole.
In the book I took the broken statues to be foreshadowing of the grim fate of all of those races due to voldemort’s continued ascension.
