Everyone needs to finish the damn book so I can change my avatar to the new Potterpuffs.

JKR said that someone would perform magic late in life. Did I just miss it? What's going on here?
Viravain2007-07-23 13:18:07
Well, what Dudley did to Harry at the beginning of the book was pretty magical and miraculous...

That could be either Neville's Gram or Mrs. Weasley.

I was censor.gif ing right.
Harry lived, he was a Horcrux, Snape was good and he was in love with Lily, Neville did something important. So Dumbledore didn't turn into a phoenix like I'd guessed...we all miss one or two things.

Mrs. Weasley and Neville's grandmother were already magical. We've seen Molly perform magic heaps of times, and Neville's grandmother was not a Squib (evidenced by her having attended Hogwarts and failing her Charms OWL, beginning of Book 6). Dudley didn't actually perform any magic, either. I was convinced it was going to be him. I'm confused.

So, I bought the book on the day of the scheduled release. Hurray! Then I have to go to work ten minutes later. Boo.

After work, I sit down to read the book, but discover that my right pupil is dilated to the size of my iris. Two days later, I still can't read more than a few chapters at a time before my eye strain becomes unbearable.

Weep, and so forth.

Edit: I think Okin should call me and read the rest. smile.gif

So if Harry was related to one of the three brothers and inherited the cloak and the Gaunts(Voldemort's family) had inherited that ring from the other brother...

Woahhhh, way to catch that! Most of the wizarding families are related distantly in some way or another, anyways though, so it shouldn't bee too surprising.
Hazar2007-07-23 17:25:13
Heck, the Weasleys are related to the Blacks, I'm pretty sure.

Yeah, that was really bugging me when I made the connection. I was hoping Harry or SOMEONE would have mentioned even that deeper connection between them but no one ever did.

I just finished it.
I was so sad when Fred, Tonks, Lupin et all died.

I expected the Epilogue to be as it was (er.. Kinda).

Didn't expect the super awesome chapter before it though. biggrin.gif

I think that either that was planned but not written, written but cut, or it referred to Neville's marked improvement in almost everything from the foundation of the DA onwards.

On another tangent, I loved the little "House-elves! Attack!" thing at the end. And crying.gif for Fred, Tonks and Lupin.

Also, I think the ending could have been handled better. Relieved as I am that Harry lived, it seemed sort of cheap somehow, the way it was done. All that stuff about him going to die and stuff and then Wow! He's back! Not really sure how to explain it, but I just didn't like that.

And I'm surprised Luna wasn't mentioned in the Epilogue. Everyone likes Loony Luna.

Lupin's death was the saddest. Not only he had just had a child, he also was the last remaining link Harry had to his parents (Everyone else who knew them well in life was dead).

Yeah, so who else noticed that Harry Potter was born in 1981. He'd be like 27 now if it was real!

Also, I don't think the ring necessarily means they're related. They could have stolen the stone or found it or something, especially considering that the brother who had the cloak lived to pass it on (which it explicitly said he did) while the brother with the stone killed himself and had no children (that it mentioned).

Wait a minute. Voldemort was the Heir of Slytherin, we know that. If he -was- the heir, that means the three Peverell brothers were descended from Slytherin, and hence, so is Harry. Unless Voldemort is descended from Slytherin in a different line than the Peverells... but Marvolo seemed to think the Peverell crest was the Slytherin crest, which makes that seem unlikely.

There was no crest, that was just the sign of the Deathly Hallows. Marvolo just assumed it was the Slytherin crest since it was handed down from his ancestors.

Marvolo was descended from Slytherin, but likely from another line (Merope wore his locket).

Potterpuffs ftw. You win the thread.

And while it's sad that Fred, Remus, and Tonks died, don't forget Hedwig, Dobby, and Colin Creevy, among those we know for sure.
