Will the "combat" skill or even better, deepwounds effect the Monks? I'd love to see more then 1 class effected by these skills
Furien2007-07-14 04:31:22
Not sure about Combat.
Monks do focus on dealing deepwounds, but their afflictions aren't dependent on how much deepwounds the enemy has. If the monk wants to afflict you with something in a combo via a specific skill, it'll hit so long as they don't parry/stance/dodge/rebound it*. The more deepwounds you have, the more damage you'll receive and the higher chance there is of being hit with a poison on their weapon(s).
*The exception of this is with form modifiers, which only hit on certain limbs and don't always work.

so they don't have any instant kills? It's all just double poisons plus extra afflictions and they can attack multiple targets, but get even faster if they go into that stance that goes after one target only?
Shamarah2007-07-14 04:44:49
Harmony has an instakill, but it looks pretty crappy.
Furien2007-07-14 04:44:54
Forms can only go against one target. Using individual attacks are slower than using forms.
Harmony (the skill available for Celest and Serenwilde) has one instakill, but it isn't really reliable. I don't know if I can say what it is.
As you use forms, and link the forms together, each subsequent form in a chain gets faster and faster. The problem is, currently, that forms are very easy to stop. Prone, paralyse, move, entangle, break a limb or anything similar to the monk and their momentum pauses. They also need to worry about parrying, stancing, natural dodging, acrobatics dodging, missing, rebounding and shields.

what kind of skill set is harmony? Monks get acrobatics or psionics and psychometabolism for defense, martial arts style, and then harmony for the seren/celest.

Beg to differ. Seriously, with the right teammates, it'll be insane.

I.e. they're the warrior archetype on steroids, sans instakill. I wonder if they'll need arties to be viable, too. EDIT: To clarify, I was talking about their offense.

Isn't PvP skill development supposed to be based on 1v1 combat, despite how seldom that occurs?

Harmony is pretty much a flexible utility sort of skill. Monks (from Celest or Serenwilde) can have up to 3 mantras active at each time, and each mantra allows for a different thing. There's a mantra that increases sip speed, another that lowers physical damage, another that improves the damage you deal, another that allows you to attack the mana/ego of an enemy. It's pretty varied.
You can combine certain mantras for special 'Spirit' effects, too, like getting Regen in certain environments. (Though the regen currently isn't too spectacular.)
Magnagora and Glomdoring will be given another skillset instead of Harmony, but we have no idea what it is.
As for arties..it doesn't look like it. Stat arties are fairly pointless, at least for Seren's guild, since our weapons only have a total max of 300 stat points and no stat can go over 105. (Theoretically, according to Roark, we can get a 110/95/95 weapon if we're lucky.)
Shiri2007-07-14 05:15:53
And to get the regen you have to chant useless things like willpower regen and ego boost. (depending on the area.) Was hoping we'd get more of it boosted before leaving test server, but oh well...
Furien2007-07-14 05:20:19
That's subject to what sort of environment you're looking for Regen in, though!
For instance, if you want the Spirit combo for Regen in Natural Underground environments, you need to be chanting the 3 Metal mantras. They reduce physical damage, reduce psychic damage, and make your debate and influencing attacks slightly stronger (in addition to the regen!)

one of which is irrelevant, and another of which is only relevant against telepaths. See my point?
Ildaudid2007-07-14 05:27:48
The instakill requires the target be down to 2/3 health/mana AND ego... which is not going to happen often with 1vs1 combat... maybe with a group of people, each person working on one of the stats... maybe... but right now... if you end up dying to it 1 vs 1 you have issues and need to fix your sipper... or buy kingdom/mercy/perfection enchants... that will solve that for you...

Thing is, there's mindblast. Seren don't get that though.

That skill that bards have would be good for that, if they were able to stick it. The discordant thing.
