Just came back from a very small, very simple vacation, which was nicely destressing. (Work seems intent on restressing me right back to where I was, though, but that's not a rave.) One of the stops was the Pequot Museum near Foxwoods; didn't know it was near Foxwoods until we got there, and was worried it'd be really Disney, sanitized and whitewashing everything with touchy-feely "we were all perfect beings in complete harmony with the natural world" thing. There was a tiny bit of that, but very little; mostly, it was a really balanced and informative view of the history of the Pequot tribe (and other Native American tribes to a lesser extent) right up to the present day.

Some of it, particularly the creation myths and spirituality parts, almost made me think it might be nice to dredge Gwylifar up from retirement. There's so much really cool stuff that the Serenguard could tap into in that stuff, which has barely been touched.

The exhibit about the caribou hunt also seemed nicely suitable for adaptation to Lusternia. In Lusternia, hunting is very one-dimensional: get into a room and do damage fast enough while healing fast enough to kill it before it kills you. Or if the thing runs, chase it, since it doesn't run faster than you and doesn't have the sense to run away from you. The caribou hunt was far more interesting especially because it was a group activity in which everyone, even the young, had a part. Some would be spotters to watch for the migration, and some would be waving sheets of leather to drive the caribou into an area with muddy ground where it couldn't run very fast, and only then would the hunters be able to take the caribou down with spears. It's not nearly so much about doing damage -- once the caribou is in the trap, it doesn't take much to fell it, and it's not likely to do a lot of damage to the hunters. It's about the tribe working together, everyone in their specific role, to seize the opportunity of the migration. This could be really effectively done in Lusternia with mobs that move on particular migratory paths, that try to flee but that get stuck when in certain terrains, that run away from someone waving a particular object, etc. So the challenge is not whether you can kill one, but how many your tribe can get before the migration passes, depending on how well it works together.

Euros seem like such a scary currency compared to the dollar, I was surprised when I was shown something that costs $20 for me cost 40 for my German housemate. Of course, she wasn't quite so happy I got it for that price.

My housemates rock plus my best friend, though it's sad she has to put her dream on delay, is coming to live with us for sure next year.

Mini rant: Might have to make an emergency trip home because the mail system sucks sooooo much, but once I get the papers I'm home free!
