Nah, in N.C. you can just go to the DMV and get a Special ID card if you want to. And it's not that I won't have a license, it's that I won't use it. A decent bike = 20000$ less then a decent car, it keeps you healthy too.

...except it doesn't. Look at the stats for bike vs car accident death and injury rates.

My former manager just had his entire leg and foot cut clean off from a truck that sideswiped him out of the blue. In a car he'd have been okay.

Edit: Wait.. by bike do you mean 40 year old virgin style bike (bicycle), or an actual bike (sport/cruiser/etc)?
Xavius2009-08-15 19:22:08
You need a license for motorcycles. Pretty sure he means pedal-powered bicycle.

Statistically, people who get hurt or killed on a bike usually do so because they are breaking every bike law in the book. Ridden properly and safely, a bike is about as safe as driving a car. Do people die on bikes? Yes. Do people die in cars? Yes. I started seriously riding a bike around the same time I started driving. I've been in no accidents on my bike, and 2 in my car, not counting the times I've been hit and it was no damage.

Oh sure, make me go digging around again tongue.gif.

EDIT:
Okay, this is the best I could find for now. I'm trying to track down the actual government surveys used to get this data (a bit more detail is given for the United States at the bottom), and once I do, I'll provide a link to that.

It's all summarized from this presentation, which has its references at the end.

There's also, but I'm not exactly sure what it is trying to prove.

Hmm, I also thought we were talking about motorcycles, not bicycles. Wouldn't've doubted it otherwise! Sorry, my fault, should read more closely.

Whoops, my bad! I don't ride motorcycles, so I'm not going to dig around for those statistics though biggrin.gif.

Also, I really enjoyed this book and the movie looks like it will be quite lovely. The Lovely Bones

Oh, almost forgot, got an acceptance letter in the mail this afternoon smile.gif. Now I just need to figure out what classes I'm taking for this semester.

Psh, you people and your Cyclophobia

I ride my bike to school EVERY day, then back once I'm out (And the ride is about 3 miles on the MAIN street of our town) And I've never had an accident. Just some people yelling at me because I wont ride my bike across the street xD

One thing I AM scared of is skateboarding. About a year ago I broke my arm trying to do that to school...
Not a good idea dry.gif

I went to see District 9 today, and can honestly say that I was pleased. I wrote a review on the forums, but no one's looking at it. sad.gif

Karel2009-08-16 01:31:40
Yeah, well. No one is commenting, which makes it seem just as bad. >.>

We don't want to sully Peter Jackson's genius with our lesser opinions and thoughts. biggrin.gif

Hey, I wrote a review. I did all the hard work. All you have to do is flame it.
Karell2009-08-16 13:31:55
Who are you, and why do you have a name so similar to mine?
Joli2009-08-16 14:45:13
I'll be 21 in less than 15 days! Woo!

I haven't decided whether I'm going to go to Tunica, Memphis, or Tuscaloosa yet. I really want to go to Tunica though so I can be there when the clock strikes midnight with a frilly drink in one hand and a slot machine pulley thing in the other.
