Barefoot parkour sounds so amazingly fun, and sexy, it huts.

-perk- Do I sense someone who knows what parkour/freerunning is?
Yiila2010-08-15 23:25:21
Yes, I quite enjoy watching others do it, and would like to do it myself, though I have doubts in my own physical ability. But yes, I am definitely a fan of l'art du déplacement, no doubt.

Me? Or "You" as a collective noun for all people reading the thread?

No, you. You've been quite refreshing to watch. Reminds me it's not all nerdrage and nourishing e-tears.

When it comes to physical ability, work your way up. I used to be really good and be able to do quite a bit - safe jumps, front flips almost to the point of flatground, etc. But I lost that over the past few months because of various issues, so I'm working my way back up, starting with precisions and simple stuff like that to get myself limber again.

@demonic: Why thank you, you have made my day.

@kayte: Seeing you push for it like this does motivate me to try. I might find a new hobby even! You know, I think I will try that out, starting small. Maybe in a few months we can have a Parkour thread.

@jack: I see haters gonna hate in play here good sir.

Hey whoa, I'm not dissing you. It's nice to see someone fresh-faced and enthusiastic about the whole shebang. But it is totally all about nerdrage and e-tears in the end, and ultimately you'll be ground down into the dust alongside the rest of us hate-filled peons. Unless, you know, you become like Noola and respond to the trauma with increasing cheeriness.

Or one of those who is neither Noola-esque or apart of the Hate crowd. Us ducks are just swimmin' around, do whatever we please.

There is no middle ground in the world of Jack! There is only love and hate, yin and yang, white and black, sweet and sour, Noola and Guido!

So I just walked for a little over 2 miles barefooted. I read an article this morning somewhere about how barefoot running is apparently the way to go, and no one has done real peer-reviewed research on if running shoes actually prevent injuries. I was also looking at Nike's answer to this with the Nike Free (even though I prefer Aesics and Mizuno). The pads of my feet are killing me as the asphalt was mad hot, but I -fee-l good about it.

Anyone have experience in barefoot running (say on a track or on asphalt, maximum 5 miles per go?) I would love to hear what people think. Feel free to spawn a running thread, bu I thought this made more sense as a rave for barefoot walking!

I heard that shoes encourage you to land with a different part of your foot than running barefoot does, and that the part that running barefoot has you landing on is better. I don't remember details, but I do remember that it advised against suddenly doing your normal routine barefoot, and easing in to it over time. I also remember that the thing I read suggested that there are lots of different opinions on the matter and nothing sounded definite, so eh. I cant really offer a lot of advice because, in order for me to run, I need to have something desirable in front of me, or undesirable behind me, and that hasn't happened a lot lately, so eh, do what you think feels better tongue.gif

But Jack! There is more to life than that! See the power of the uncaring, the karma (?doesthatfit?), the grey, the tangy, and the Xenthos!

@acrune: Yes that is what I was reading this morning. I quite prefer the feeling of being barefoot, it feels more much more pleasant, but I also like buying running shoes... I am torn, truly.

I did it for about 3 months on a special track. But because the arches of my feet give in I had shin splints and knee issues which I nolonger get with saucony archlocks.

From the specialist I spoke to in the hospital, running bare foot is good if you have good feet. However it depends from person to person and in my case it is bad.

Also the idea running shoes do more damage is only correct when those shoes are not selected in function of your running pattern and foot properties. Normally you should have a foot pressure test, walking test, and running test to determine what shoes are good for you.

Anyway if you are not getting injuries from running barefoot I would keep doing both. (also asphalt and contrete are very sucky undergrounds for running!)

So, after years of it sitting in my closet, I finally pull out the old PS2 because...I just missed it. Old console I have working, and it still works just like the day I first got it for Christmas those many years ago! Playing Okami, Sly Cooper, and Psi-ops smile.gif
