Ridiculous conversations ahoy. The only problem with the channel I go in is sometimes you get idiots like paint here, but you have to make the best of it. I spoilered out the cusses.

QUOTE
* HotShot can see tumbleweed making its way across the channel
* paint grabs the weed and smokes it
it's a tumbleweed you fuckin' dupe
can you imagine if tumbleweeds actually were something people would want to smoke? I just got like, this image in my head of idiot stoner kids trying and failing to chase after a tumbleweed as it blows around
lol
"DUDE CATCH IT" "I CAN'T IT'S TOO FAST" "SH1T DUDE IT'S ESCAPING FROM ABOVE"
how HIGH does it even have to ~be~
Allyson: Thats where the "stoner ingenuity" comes into play and they build elaborate traps waiting for tumbleweeds, then they get bored and do something else.
Then people will drive by on the highway seeing this cluttered mess of 2x4 and rope that looks like modern art
yeah that seems pretty plausible actually

I'm currently writing a webseries that my indie director friend is gonna collaborate with me on. It's a surreal 70s cop show comedy/parody. One of the bad guys is a talking cat. Supoib.

Jim Butcher is one awesome author. Both the Codex Alera and Dresden Files series were/are plain awesome.

The best part about building a Dwarf Fortress is watching it be destroyed/become indestructible. Things are pretty boring after that either way.

DEATH TRAPS

EVERYWHERE

DEATH TRAPS

EVERYWHERE

I didn't get to the mega-death traps. I was attacked by a bronze colossus and had forgotten to set cages in the valley, so I had to fight him with my military of one full squad, granted that squad had spent ample time in the Danger Roomtm; only one or two of them could hurt him since I didn't have access to steel, silver, or even iron.
Five minutes later a Forgotten Beast rieses out of the caverns and murders about twenty dwarves before being killed by a nanny goat. Half an hour later I got a giant. I was expecting a giant monster fight between the colossus and the giant, but the giant got sidetracked chasing a deer through the wilderness and is currently now slapping some dwarf with a glove that he for some reason equipped instead of wearing, so he has the glove and is just slapping that dwarf's censor.gif . Meanwhile the colossus is trying to strangle a soldier as he has been for most of this time.
After that a tribe of troglodytes tries to enter from the caverns, but my cages weren't fully armed due to the chaos, so one snuck by and managed to get into my housing complex and murder dwarves in their sleep after fighting off eight war dogs. Then he was killed by the puppy of one of the war dogs FOR GREAT VENGEANCE.
People had started to tantrum during all of this and one prisoner went beserk so I sent in about four trained soldiers to take him down in his cell since I was short on dwarfpower. He killed all of them. The beserk prisoner was slain by the aforementioned troglodyte.
The mayor picked a fistfight with the Captain of the Guard and killed him with one slug to the head. This created an even larger tantrum spiral after the crowd of dwarves who couldn't enter the fortress because they were too scared of the colossus who was still trying to strangle the same recruit died of thirst (though the recruit himself was doing fine, sans being unconscious and winded.)
One dwarf brought a wounded baby to bed then threw a tantrum and smashed it.

My engravers are recording all of it while everyone else is on expanding the nifty graveyard I had made. I hollowed out some of the cavern spires and put one tomb at the top with mass-coffins below it. Not only that, but I also connected the spires with a system of retracting bridges so that no flyers could get in through there, or anything walking for that matter.

Such so far has been the chronicles of Lanterpunches.

I suggest getting a tileset. It really really helps.

Why are all of my dwarves just milling about near the wagon? I don't know what to make...okay, that guy just started to eat the other guy. This is like the Oregon Trail 2.0.
Ilyssa2011-07-29 21:26:20
I don't use a tileset myself, but this guide really helped me. There's a program called Dwarf Therapist that's also very helpful.

Dwarf Therapist was really helpful, yeah. The custom world builder was nice too.

I just editted the tag out of the raws. biggrin.gif
For some worlds I also set Rocs, Giant Cave Spiders, and Dragons to be purchasable from the embark screen for one point.

No, I mean it creates the map for me. Makes rainfall patterns, volcanic activity, elevations, and so on.

Oh, that thing. Psh. Dwarf Fortress isn't any fun unless you're embarking to a Haunted Saltwater Marsh.

Rave: I actually got to see every patient I highlighted in yellow! (I highlight them in yellow to remind me that they really should be seen that day). That almost never happens. Plus, getting to sit with a family who just decided to put a family member in comfort-only care (Hospice, palliative care) is a moving experience.
