Yeahhhh! It's dress-down week at work! I'm so relaxed, sitting here with my hoody on, baggy jeans and my big floppy running shoes aren't even on! Reclined in my chair with my feet up on my computer tower that's under my desk! This is the life! THIS IS THE LIFE!
And yes, the odd smell is indeed my feet and/or shoes. Stop asking already!

There is no dress code where I work, as long as you don't wear shorts. And that's even allowed in the summer time if you donate $50 to a charity.

Lucky. Have to wear dress pants, dress shoes and collared shirt here. I had to pay $10 to dress down for this week! They should have this every week, I would TOTALLY pay $10/week to not dress up.

There's no dress code where I work period. As long as your clothes are clean and cover everything needing covered anything goes. Shoes are totally optional too. I generally go to work in my gym clothes so I don't have to change when I stop at the gym on the way home.

Well, though I'm a Web Developer for the Municipality the IT department is within the building that people pay taxes, get licenses, etc., so I have to be dressed properly because the public still can see me, even if I don't interact with them.
Dugan2008-11-03 15:54:11
It must be nice to wear what you want at work. Where I work, they are so anal its unreal.

Yeah, no one ever sees us. Very rarely we have someone come in that we need to look decent for and the other Amanda sends out emails saying "Gotta dress up tomorrow, sorry guys!"

Yeah, no one ever sees me either. I'm on the 25th floor of a tower, and this floor requires a security card to even get onto. heh.

My monitor caught fire. There was smoke and everything (well, no fire alarm amazingly. I guess the fire alarm got tired after weeks of going off every night.)
The rave is getting this beautiful new flatscreen 25% off (150$). I will be a little low on funds this and next month, but my god, there's so many new colours. I was blind before! So pretty....

We have snow, it's staying on the ground.
Plus, I honest to god have friends of my own here. That is so nice not to have to be reliant on my roommates to go out, the past weekend of going out with them (and tonight as well) has been fun.
Especially when we all chipped in to make dinner.

snow.
Oh sure, the first winter it's like "Aww, it's so pretty and soft!" But after the 10th time, like other pretty and soft things, it becomes despised.

Don't rain on my parade.
You don't have snow, so go be a grumpy Gus in your own city.

In my next mini-campaign in D&D (more like modules, really, since there's only two of us without the DM), I get to be a female dual-wielding bludgeoning fighter, a.k.a. Lusternia-style bonecrusher. I feel awesome.

Wish I could get away with that. Unfortunately, by bike shorts+running shorts are just a bit tight, and accentuate my arse. Makes it very difficult to do anything without admiring comments and gasps of awe. Not a good idea to do around customers.
Also my quads look like they eat puppies.

It's a false comparison. Many tax costs related to building and maintaining the transportation infrastructure are folded into gas prices in most of the world, because it makes sense: the more gas you use, the more of a share you should be paying for maintaining roads. Those same costs still accrue in America, they just show up in other places that make somewhat less sense, like income taxes and property taxes.
Not entirely.
My figures are out of date (although I doubt they have changed), but significantly less than a fifth of annual revenues from VAT on new vehicles and VAT and duty on fuel is ploughed back into the road infrastructure.
There is certainly no immediate link the UK between fuel/vehicle taxes and road maintenance. Most roads in the UK are maintained by local authorities, the budgets for which are funded by a mixture of local taxation and Government subsidy. The Government, in its turn, allots local authority monies out of its total revenue pot, rather than earmarking income from particular sources for particular aims.
/hijack.
A Fain rave to justify this post: I'm taking half a day off work tomorrow!
