I was going to rant about how our heated sidewalks don't let snow stick, but OUR SNOW IS STICKING ANYWAY!

I miss the snow.

I kinda agree with you. Heated roads I understand, but footpaths? Anyways, yay for snow. I'm wondering where ours went.

HEATED ROADS?
Why do I have the urge to put on a peaked hat with an eagle on top, a black trenchcoat and bellow "HERESY" at the top of my lungs?

Another rave for Gears of War 2, and the rape handed out in said game.
Shiri2008-11-18 04:21:09
When you say "heated" do you mean "put that grit stuff on" or do you actually bombard your roads/pavements with microwaves or something?
Unknown2008-11-18 04:23:00
We have heaters underneath our sidewalks. You can walk over a vent and it'll blast warm air up at you. It's really nice during the winter!

I bet the males agree about that if there's a girl stupid enough to walk around in the winter in a skirt.

What.. WHAT IS THIS? Honestly. How do you come to the point where you HEAT footpaths and roads? What is wrong with just scraping them away? The cost must be more than scraping to run heaters 24/7 that can heat concrete to the point where it melts snow. What COUNTRY are you in? Are you actually on the moon, and it's been terraformed without anyone telling me? Or maybe Japan, home of the hideously inefficient technology?

Ah, yes. I love the gender references used here. "Males" and "girl" indeed.
How terribly amusing.

heated pavements? What is wrong with good ol' grit/salt?
I also hate snow but this is quite ridiculous

Speaking as somebody who grew up in the Frozen North (Minnesota), heated sidewalks sound like a great plan. Cuts down on shoveling, melts black ice, makes it not so hateful to wait for the bus or rail. Also, it's great to be living in a country so decadent that we can waste time on things like this. It's the equivalent of those little stoppers Starbucks gives you for sealing the tops of their cups from spillage - completely unnecessary, but a really, really nice touch.

Nothing's wrong with regular grit 'n salt, but the university likes us to go to class no matter the weather, so heated footpaths it is. My campus is really the only place in America that I know has these kinds of sidewalks, actually, so we can just go ahead and gape aghast at my school and it will take the brunt of any accusations.
Gregori2008-11-18 15:23:09
Heated sidewalks, driveways, roads are becoming all the rage in places with heavy ice and snow. I actually could have made decent money this summer in the construction industry if I knew enough about them to take on contracts for them. Maybe next.
