Nothing's wrong with regular grit 'n salt, but the university likes us to go to class no matter the weather, so heated footpaths it is. My campus is really the only place in America that I know has these kinds of sidewalks, actually, so we can just go ahead and gape aghast at my school and it will take the brunt of any accusations.
And this is one of the reasons why tuition is so high! Enjoy paying for ridiculously expensive crap like that and it doesn't even work!

Actually, the snow all melted by evening yesterday. The heaters worked. But I hear you about the expensive tuition, and I'm out of state, too.
Noola2008-11-18 18:06:44
Ewwwww! Out of State tuition is just scary insane!

We have heaters in our bridges to prevent black ice on them and potential accidents (doesn't stop all of them obviously, because some people are just plain.. idiots about driving) but we also use salt and grit (grandfather used to work for Windsor Salt, this is their favourite season) but there are environmental problems associated with grit and salt that we're trying to move away from.

Mine liked to have class all the time too, but didn't bother with the whole "Make the sidewalks usable" thing

It's not bad weather over there at all, and I'm betting you guys managed to get snow days. We don't. Ever.

Raves for the utter joy of leaving the windows wide open so that it's as cold inside as out, wearing a coat indoors and two blankets, cats crawling under said blankets alongside me and purring, and of course the "What the hell!?" look my husband's going to have when he gets home and sees it.

Me too.
Why in the world would anyone do such a thing?
Diamondais2008-11-19 18:36:49
Because the cold is a lovely thing, means cuddling.

I have found a picture of you with this new information.

And speaking of cold, we have lots of snow.
If I didn't like snow so much this'd probably be a rant as I slipped on a patch of ice earlier and went right into a pile of it. But, it was so fun and my laptop didn't get wet so it didn't matter at all to me!
