The state's Department of Fish and Wildlife might be using that second picture on their website. People keep saying I could get a second career as a wildlife photographer, but heck, when they pose for you, it's easy! (And he's been there for five hours now...)

That's so awesome!

The owl that I saw out my window several times last year has returned. I was worried he'd moved on, but he's back out my window right now, watching the finches.
Here's him last year:
Here's today's picture:
He seems a little plumper. I guess the hunting's been good this year!
Owls are great: he's just sitting there calm as can be watching while I stand in my doorway taking the picture. We've had an adorable little white ermine running around our deck the last few weeks scaring away the birds and squirrels and chipmunks, but I can't catch him with the camera, he's way too fast.
Edit: Replaced the second picture with a closer, better one.

According to Native folklore, the owl is the totem for those who work with the darker aspects of life i.e., the arcane, secrets, removing secrets from others, et cetera. They are also nature's "all-watchers". ^.^ They're also the Night Guardians to those who they claim as their own, according to some more Native american folklore. So Lendren's a Shadowdancer in real life! Mwahahaha!

So after a long frustrating process while being very sick, two of the three friends who planned to come up made it yesterday.
Even though I got stuck on a city bus for two hours because I couldn't get a hold of them and they went straight to my house, we had a really nice evening with a bunch of friends where I and two others made dinner (a stew and some sushi, plus risotto rice that my boyfriend made odd mix eh?) and we had a cake which another of my friends made.
Everyone liked the stew I made which makes me feel great inside, my old and new friends are getting along though there's been the odd problem.

After two incredibly long weeks I've finally finished my paperwork for college! Now I can turn it in finally.

I've actually read a book that actually used the word 'demesne'! That's one less word that Estarra made up!
I just realised this as well:
HELP DICTIONARY
A DEMESNE (pronounced "domain")

Furien2009-02-23 14:27:30
I still pronounce it as 'demense' whenever it's going through my head, I just have to make sure to say 'domain' whenever I'm talking to someone about it. They then stare at me in confusion when I spell out that it's 'demesne'. :/
Otherwise, I've gotten two good friends of mine to join Lusternia recently. Finally feel like playing again!

Haha, I pronounce it as 'the mans'. If I've forgotten how it was spelt, I would pronounce it as 'the mass knee'

That is an original variant...
Noola2009-02-23 14:46:03
I always wind up pronouncing it de-menz. Like, from that tv show Fantasy Island where the little guy would yell, "De Plane, Boss! De Plane!" Only with Menz instead of plane.

That's if I spell it wrongly as demesne.

I could never tell which was the right one. I guess its fortunate that I'm not a demesne user. Half the time, instead of trying to, say, DEMESNE CENTER, I'd be doing DEMENSE CENTRE.
