Ugh, rap...so immature and brain-rotting.
Some alternative rock here and there is okay. I mainly listen to oldies or country, and of course, 80's rock is always welcome.

Try listening to Aesop Rock before you condemn rap as a horrid genre
Roark2007-07-23 23:35:10
Hard core death metal!!! Or Baroque.

Lots of stuff. Abney Park is probably my current favorite, although I'm listening to a lot of Pendulum, Conjure One, and Recoil lately as well. Otherwise I'm a big fan of Sisters of Mercy, Enigma, and October Project.

I decided to look up Abney Park. It's good but one thing what exactly makes you a steampunk band?
Ashteru2007-07-24 22:53:21
Seems like I am the only Rap fan here. O.o So I won't even mention anything Raprelated.

Now what's wrong with country? If Emmylou can't break your heart, no-one can.
Anyhow. I might as well just post the record I'm listening to now. It's probably a bit of a fan-disc, since many would argue that the original recordings are better, and the new ones are too far-fetched. In any case, I think it's a nice collection of Span-tunes, and a good way to get further into their large catalogue.

Pity you can't understand half of it.
Let's see.. bands. (And maybe a song or two as an intro to them.)
Nightwish (7 days to the wolves, Ghost Love Score)
Celldweller (The Last Firstborn, switchback)
Dragonforce (Revolution Deathsquad)
Soilwork (Distortion sleep)
Apocalyptica (UNforgiven)
Adema (Immortal)
Apoptygma Berzerk (Against the world, Maze, Rollergirl)
Breaking Benjamin (Follow me)
Coheed and Cambria (The suffering)
Emilie Autumn (Swallow, Liar) - Trust me, you'll like her. Think victorian era industrial music. No guitars, but she does have a viola.
Enomine or E Nomine, depends, really (Mitternacht, Ave Maria, the Lords Prayer) - Again, drool.
That's not all of it, but those are the ones I listen to the most, along with some intro songs.
Why are they almost all two word names?
Edit: Oh, Rammstein, Within Temptation, Zeromancer, if you like any form of rock you'll adore In Flames, anything by Pendulum or VNV nation, TrustCompany is good emo rock that manages not to be emo. Sorry, those are the best ones on my playlist.

I am a huge fan of..
Three Days Grace (their latest CD especially)
12 Stones (latest CD too, but older stuff is good) - I think they're technically christian rock but not really

The thing about rap... is that it's either unbelievably horrible or quite good. Most of what you would hear on the radio or be exposed to mainstream = the horrible sort.
If you want a feel for what rap can be, listen to some old school Nas, some Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony, and maybe some Scarface. Try some underground stuff like Jedi Mind Tricks too. I dare you to listen to "Saviour Self" by them and try to say there isn't some thought put into what they do... Rap is just focused on lyrics and not so much the musical aspect, per se. It's like reading a book... if the topic doesn't interest you, you're just not going to get it.
Myself? What do I have in my jeep right now to listen to? Just about everything you can imagine... Some Eric Clapton, Bobby Blue Bland, Freddy King, the White Stripes (I'm a bluesman at heart first and foremost), some Marvin Gaye, Lenny Williams, Tempatations (love the oldies), some Ludacris, Game, and Lil Wayne (yes I do like rap), followed up with some Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, and the Doors (I believe rock has been dead for a while. Only a few bands made it through the 80s. These days it's musically as simple as your hated rap music... without lyrics that mean much of anything. No thanks)

So, I just discovered The Protomen... a modern rock opera group, with a fairly 80s sound... inspired by Megaman.

Its scary how much overlap there is between Yrael's music and mine >_<

This thread is so so old, but I'm glad to have discovered it.
<3 Dresden Dolls... Underoath, BFMV, DJ Bl3nd, The Cure, The Clash... I have a lot, we'd be here all day... spread out from 80s brit punk to screamo to jazz.
But yay for new music suggestions!

"Lights", little singer from Canada (I believe) is giving me an epic happy squeegasm lately. She's just so cute!
