1984 was very good. We had read it in english this this year and yea, I could see as some people dropped right off. It was definitly very hard for some people.
Talnar2007-07-29 23:44:09
Yeah. However, our teacher did kind of an RP'ing thing that went along with it, like she was Big Brother, she chose 5 kids to be the Party members, then the rest were Proles. Twas fun!
Jack2007-07-30 00:33:57
Five kids? That was like the total number of people in my literature class last year. Wish we read anything as interesting as 1984. I had to make do with North and South and Hard Times.
EDIT: Ah yeah. If anyone cares I'm reading Crime and Punishment and the Flowers of Evil at the moment.

I recently read all the Dune books from 'Dune' down to 'Dune Chapterhouse'. I found them all very good. Harry Potter 7 I finished to. I'm currently reading 'Know-it-all' by A.J. Jacobs. Good, but not amazing.

I'm also currently reading The Golden Compass, and I'm really enjoying it so far.
I'm also over halfway through A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin.
After I finish His Dark Materials and finish up the Song of Ice and Fire series, I'm probably going to read Son of a Witch. Wicked is one of my all time favorite books...I just havn't been able to read SoaW yet because I know Elphaba won't be in it. And that nearly makes me cry.
Also, whoever mentioned Neil Gaiman...American Gods is -awesome-.

I have decided to reread the uncut version of Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land for the upteenth time.
Each time I reread one of his stories I find something more relevant to modern day.

Neil Gaiman's American Gods is indeed sheer awesomeness. And for those who do cyperpunk, William Gibson's Neuromancer triology is sheer awesomeness as well. Go dark, futuristic technological dystopia!

Let's see...
I just finished reading Chainfire from the Sword of Truth series...
Also done reading ZigZag The Story by James Bruchner...
Just read the entire Lusternian History of the Elder Wars...
I think I'll go back reading Wizard's First Rule, I always like that book.

Finished the Dark Tower series. Wow.
Brave New World & 1984 are up for a re-read maybe...
Right now I'm going through the Dresden Files series. I always like the guys way of writing, for some reason.

Anyone know of any good Forgotten Realms books? I've read:
all the Drizzt books
The Cleric Quintet
The House of Serpents
War of the Spider Queen (the beginning few books rocked out loud, the last couple, after Ryld was eaten, sucked)
and The Last Mythal
Any others?

I'm currently split between The Selfish Gene, by Richard Dawkins (I just finished an audiobook version of The Origin of Species, read by Dawkins) and Metamorphosis and Other Stories, by Kafka, ohh and my exam revision
Ymbryne2007-09-06 21:34:54
I'm reading Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen. It's about a guy who joins the circus in the 1930s, and absolutely hilarious.

Currently reading the Ender series (again) by Orson Scott Card
Previously the book's on Waris Dirie, about her life and battle against FGM Female Genital Mutilation

Spook Country. Wub for Gibson. And the fact that it's probably going to be a trilogy, in the same way Neuromancer was. Wub for Molly and Bigend.

Confessions of Aleister Crowley - I have all three bios of Crowley but haven't read any of them. I figure worst case scenario, I sell them for more than I bought them for, since they're all out of print. I think his followers are more over serious and brooding than Crowley himself. I find him quite cheeky.
Medicine of the Cherokee, by J.T. Garret - Eh, not what I expected, but nice nonetheless.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Still need to read up on. Some parts actually bore me??
waiting on:
Mists of Avalon - Seen the movie too many times to count. Not happy until I know every Arthurian story by heart.
Yes, I'm a silly little girl.

Oh, the movie is a travesty compared to the book. Seriously. After you read the book, you won't ever be able to stomach the movie again. So if you want to watch it a few more times, do it before you read the book.

The movie was dreadful. The book was a snore fest.

Just started (re)reading the Golden Compass. Couldn't get past the first chapter or so, last time, since I really had no idea who was who.

I am reading a book called Still Life with Crows, it's a standalone book about Agent Pendergast from Relic and Reliquary
