If you've not heard of A Fine Frenzy, a new music artist that has entered into the mainstream musical industry, I would definately recommend you check her out. She has a very quiet voice and lyrics that speak a lot less of sex, money, power, and fame, and more of the things that affect every day people. Heart break, soul seeking, and hope. I've never heard a voice quite like hers, but the best I can do is describe her to Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos, with a mixture of a new piano style and music style that is clearly her own. I'm listening to her right now and just attacking a piece of paper with the next few chapters of The Day the World Was, the novella I'm writing for Lusternia.com. Definately check her out.
Go to Vh1.com and go to Search. Put in A Fine Frenzy and enjoy.

I like Tori Amos, so I decided to check her out.
Really, really good. I'll probably be buying her album. Beautiful lyrics, and original music too, something that's harder and harder to find these days. I can see how she would inspire you to write.
If you like the whole "quiet voice, poetic lyrics", you might want to check out Joshua Radin, too. He's relatively new on the music scene, but you might have heard some of his music on Scrubs. You can listen to him at http://www.myspace.com/joshuaradin
Definitely listen to his song "Winter".
Edit: "Almost Lover" by A Fine Frenzy almost sounds like a play on words to James Blunt's "Goodbye My Lover". Some of the music sounds similar, and she even sings "goodbye my" *pause* "almost lover." James Blunt was another "You Oughta Know" artists from Vh1, so it's pretty cool if she got the inspiration from him.

He's actually pretty "big" in Europe. Songs playing up and down on MTV and stuff. (Talking about James Blunt)

I just found my next husband. *gets out a club and goes to hunt down Josh Radin*
I'm simply in love with his song, "Closer". Sounds very much like Nick Drake.
