Back to The Real World.

Seeing that we have more than a few GG fans here, I have created this thread. Let the GG-related talk begin!

I did play Izuka and GG XX#Reloaded. I liked Reloaded more, actually - it had a story mode and the characters were more detailed (read: bigger, as both games have the same graphics), while I didn't like Izuka's non-auto turning feature. Well, it was just a spinoff after all, so no surprise it wouldn't be as good as the real series.

My level in the game I would consider average - I have no problems making effective combos, utilising normal cancels, but (false) roman cancels I have yet to learn how to use effectively. I play for fun, and I have no delusions about being able to participate in a tournament or anything of that measure.

What are your favourite characters?

I originally owned Guilty Gear X2 for the PS2. There was a time in high school and me and my friends were severely addicted to fighting games, so we were trying any that we could get our hands on when we stumbled across GG. I started out playing as Slayer, and I learned to master that annoying never-ending-bite combo, but I soon switched to Axl Low, who became my main character.

Sadly I gave my copy to a friend from high school for her birthday, under the delusion I would buy #Reload (which, as you say, prettier, and they fixed a lot of the game mechanics, removing the cheaper moves that some characters had). I havn't picked it up yet, and now I'm in college with only a PS2, so I might have to buy GGX2 again. I own Izuka as well, but, like you, I hated the non-auto turn.

I was never really -that- good, and never got to the point where I could master the roman cancels.

Has anyone ever looked up all the fight/combo videos there are out there? I have a disc full of them setting here on my desk, some people can do -amazing- things.

I've got GGX2, and I love it to death. Izuka and it's non-auto turn and incomrehensible 4p can GTFO.

Only time I played against anyone really good was a few years back at Otakon, and I got absolutely schooled by Ky, couldn't even stand up. >_<

Slayer is pretty fun and Testament is great for really screwing with people who haven't played against him much, but I'm not sure I really have a favorite character.

The friends I was talking about from high school got -really- good like that. They met some people at the college they went to that played, and they all went to cons and stuff that had GG tournaments. They met the top ranked Zappa player at one of them, and he taught them all sorts of neat tricks.

One of them played a good Ky, like you said, that was impossible to stand up against. They kept hitting with that lightning sword attack, and would rush in behind it attacking with the sword.

Time for my favourite characters:

Dizzy - my skills are highest when I play as her, timing, distancing, combos (slash+hard slash+ arctic impaler is such a basic, yet strong move). I like her fighting style, projectiles for cover while the main character dishes out the real hits. Plus, she's really cute (I'm weak).
Ky Kiske - I'm pretty good as him, but his moves are so generic that it bores me sometimes. But, it's fun being the thunder-wielding white knight - Be Just or be Dead!
Sol Badguy - this guy's a powerhouse. Unsurprisingly, since he's such a Mary Sue (wiki the term if you don't know what it means). Dragon Trigger requires some precise timing, and even though powered up Volcanic Viper looks the strongest, what the enemy should really be afraid of is the powered up Bandit Revolver.
Axl Low - I didn't like his playing style at first, but it changed. Nice "catches", good at close and far range... this guy verges on too powerful (along with Sol and Eddie/Zato-1)
Baiken - I really like her as a character, but the blocking/counter playstyle doesn't suit me at all, so I suck playing as her. Ah well...
Anji Mito - I became MUCH better playing as him after I discovered how useful Fuujin and Shin (I think that's how you call it), and doubly so after I learnt to utilise his guard points. They're really hard to use for novice players, but make Anji a very unique character. One of my favourites, probably second to Dizzy.

Only characters I dislike playing as are Potemkin (so slow and clunky... but for some reason AI-controlled Potemkins kick my arse), Johnny (not many moves I like using...), Zappa (if you get the sword, it's a cheap win, otherwise it's a pain) and Bridget (I can't utilise the yoyo that well). But I am more or less decent on every character.

GGXX#Reload here. I still haven't decided on a 7th gen console and don't know if I will any time soon, so I'm not sure if I'll be getting Accent Core...X360 only so far, right?

Favourite: Chipp Zanuff. I like being able to move wherever I damn well want (mad.gif potemkin).
Second favourite: Millia Rage. Something similar to chipp, except I also like lust shaker and whatever that qcf s move that makes the little circle is. Why people don't like them I don't know.
Least favourite: May. I can't do ANYTHING with her for some reason. She just flails and does standing anchor swings and dies to passing breezes.

Chipp, although I am able to play as him, I wouldn't call one of my favourites. His attacks, while fast, are weak, and he's extremely frail. Millia is surprisingly more durable, and she's just as fast. Lust Shaker and Tandem Top are really good moves, and Winger is one of the better Tension Blows out there.
May's good at close distances, and you have the dolphin moves to close in. That, or Restive Rolling, which is also a good move on itself (easily stopped by enemy projectiles though). And of course, Great Yamada Attack (whale!) is horribly annoying for the opponent. I didn't figure out a good tactic for playing as her yet, but I'm sure there is one - just like when I considered Anji Mito to be weak, but I learnt otherwise.
Sekoi mane sun na yo na...
Shiri2007-08-13 01:23:51
I like the whale thing, but the dolphins just piss me off. I can't time them properly.

I love annoying people with Bridget. It's so much fun.

When I play seriously, though, I use Dizzy or Testament.

I hate fighting against Millia...she seems a bit over powered to me.

You mentioned Axl being a little bit too powerful, but I would only agree with that on GGX2, he got a lot of his attacks nerfed in #Reload. God, this thread is making me want to play again, I must track it down and buy it. whatthe.gif

As a huge GG fan I have to jump in. I mostly use Milia or Venom, depending on who I am playing. I like to use Bridget when I want to mess around for fun with mates though.

I have to agree about Milia being overpowered, her juggles have a few less frames than most other combatants juggles. This allows her to effectively stack juggle/canel/false/juggle combos in the hands of a skilled player. The same is true for Venom. Go to Youtube and look at the insane 17or 20+ Venom juggles out there, it is retarded.

Personally, I hope they make A playable and on par with everyone else, she is so cool!

Now I've got to go load up GG instead of sleeping, damn you all.
