I was just wondering, as far as the Size stat goes, what does it point to? as in, How big is a size 8 person?
I thought, since a human is 12, and lets take average human size to be 7 foot, a little high perhaps but we
round down anyway. so, thats 7/12, and so each size 'unit' is just over half a foot. so faeling are about 2 feet
high, and Igasho, 9 foot. which doesn't seem -quite- right, especially on the Igasho's side.
any ideas anyone?

Average human hight is about 6 foot. Every point of size is about equal to 1/2 a foot. A size 8 person is around 4 feet tall. Faeling are about 2 feet tall, 9 foot for Igasho.
Unknown2007-08-14 09:21:08
Well, if you're sure, but 9 ft seems small for an Igasho... and 2ft seems large for faeling...
Unknown2007-08-14 09:56:15
actually when i run it through a metric converter, the faeling's are fine. still, just over 2 and a half metres isn't much for an Igasho.. i'd imagine about five

5 metres wouldn't fit -anywhere.- Even 9 foot is a little too big for my imagination.

With an enlarge enchantment, I can get up to size 21. Try ten-and-a-half feet tall! bigun.gif

I think I even add that to my description when someone enlarges me.

Ok, and considering that, how far outside the actual stat do people think it is ok to describe oneself? Would a 1 foot faeling be ok? what about a 7 foot human?
Rika2007-08-16 08:01:42
Can't size also refer to the body size, rather than just the height?

Yes. This has been acknowledged many times, and some time ago Estarra actually posted an old paint image of roughly how all the races were initially intended to size up next to one another (though I can't seem to find it - maybe Shiri can?) Dwarves didn't look much taller than furrikin or faelings, and tae'dae were actually not very tall at all - but dwarves and tae both looked like they were supposed to have a lot more girth than other races for their height.

Instead of messing with exact numbers, I think you should skip referring to numerical height. If your character is supposed to be massively huge for their race, emphasize that. If they're supposed to be pathetically puny, emphasize that. Leaving things somewhat vague leaves more to the imagination of others, and ultimately allows you to be more flexible if you decide you want to change a bit later on down the line.

Well, you can still remedy that, if you haven't bought any OOC credits... secret.gif

Estarra has said that that chart is inaccurate. If you look at the racial descriptions, then you'll see that elfen and trills are both meant to be taller than humans, but they have low sizes because Elfens are ridiculously thin, and Trills have pneumatic bones. (That means they're partially hollow, not that they run on air pressure. We're no gassier than the next guy.)

Estarra also said that 1 size point is generally half-a-foot.

You're not going to make me go find it again, are you? I should just summon Shiribot this time.

Edit: It's located somewhere in the thread Ashteru linked to. You should know, you were there and arguing it at the time.
