I'm not very big on the horror games, I don't care how well they're done. I tried playing Doom 3 for a while, and I just didn't sleep well until I quit playing it. Even Gears of War disturbed me in places. I'm all for violent games, but I don't like creepy/scary games. I want to be the menace!

Reading this webpage strips System Shock of all its scary stuff and replaces it with hilarity.

General Resurrection Machinery
He paid no attention to the natives as they watched him systematically dismember himself.
-Painwise
The hacker freaks out and locks himself in a small cupboard, (such as a lift) assuming the lotus position and surrounded by a large pile of high explosives.
(picture - lots of explosives)
PNP man contemplates a viking funeral
The hacker then consumes all the berserk, genius and sight patches at once getting himself higher than the Pope.
(picture - the hacker IS glowing, believe it or not)
Hoo! I'm glowing.. I'm glowing.. Hey Rick, I've got six arms!!
Totally stoned, he bangs two live frag grenades together.
Later on some robots come past and wonder why the lift doors are bulging out like that.
They find your body and give it new life.
As a cyborg you will serve SHODAN well.
I wonder how?
Q: What's green but turns red at the flick of a switch?
A: A frog in a blender
Now imagine the frog was 3 feet long. This is what the lift looks like at the moment. How can we possibly resurrect that?
They find the pieces and give them new life.
As a cyborg's kneecap you will serve SHODAN well.

Yeah. GoW is about the closest to horror I'll play.

BioShock seems really interesting, so I might play it. I've avoided most horror things- stomached Gears of War, loved it. Didn't even bother with Doom 3. We got Prey with our 360 during christmas, so I played that for a bit- scared the piss out of me, but it was with morbid fascination so I could see what was going on. I eventually dropped it and said no more.

I absolutely adore all Resident Evil games, and am eagerly anticipating Bioshock!

I, unfortunately, will not be able to enjoy this game even if I wanted to. My tower will not be coming back from the service center (because it must be too difficult to replace the optical drive in house) for another 2 weeks. My other two machines would turn into piles of melted slag if I even placed the game in the drive.

You realize that a 360 could have exactly the same problem, and that you would have to send it away, right?

You missed my point. Bioshock works on every 360, which is not the case for computers.

I'm replaying System Shock 1 now.

It also looks better on computers that are better than the 360 (if the devs did their job right, anyway).

I just placed my order with amazon. Woo woo impulse shopping!

The Original System Shock was pretty innovative for--was it 1994? It had a CD-Enhanced version for voice-acting, was a true 3D engine (unlike Doom), had different difficulties, and had some cool "Event Stuff" way before Half-Life came out. I still remember the rooms shaking when we activated the destruct sequence, and the call for help to save them from the Cortex Reaver. The Engineering Level was tough.
I also remember the minigames--you could play pong in one of your windows while moving around.

It looks reaaaaally good on the 360. There comes a point where slightly better graphics don't matter

And that point is when you buy a console. Until then, I'll continue to tweak my graphics and overclock things to my heart's content.

It's not a rootkit. While the SecuROM used on Sony CDs used to have that, all the newer versions of SecuROM do is create unique fingerprints in the Registry.
http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/pc_faq.html
Also, I can confirm that when you uninstall it no record of SecuROM appears, as I ran the Rootkit detectors, etc.
(The people saying "I'm donwloading a cracked copy" disgust me. This isn't food or shelter. If you want to make a moral stand, don't buy the product. If you pirate as some sort of civil disobedience you'll end up just hurting the gaming industry itself. The "entitlement" culture will be replaced by some sort of hard-ass culture if they're not careful.)
And Actually, if you've played Thief: Deadly Shadows, Unreal Tournament 2004, and several other games SecuROM has been installed. It's not the SONY CD Rootkit, it's not even StarFORCE.

I'm downloading a cracked copy, Phred. Not due to any moral stand (morals? Hah. About all my morals are is that I don't disobey laws or deliberately set out to do hurtful things, usually) but due to the store screwing me over. Out 180 dollars, especially considering how expensive videogames are, for a week, means stuff it, I'll take it from demonoid instead.
...and probably buy it in sixth months after I want to play it again and can't be stuffed downloading it. That redeems me. Right? Right? Guys?
