Nice place for people to throw out comments that won't be able to make it to the meeting.
my thoughts:
Glomdoring is too subtle for people. Only 15% of the population can handle its awesomeness.
LOG OF THE SUMMIT CAN BE FOUND HERE

I so want to know what is going to be going on at this meeting. My issue is, I love Glom, but it isn't worth leaving Celest for, not by a long shot.
Yea, I alt there just like a lot of others. I wonder what will be changed/addressed by said summit.

personally, I think it can't hurt if some of th taint ambiguity is lost. Some minor rp skill within the guild skills that shows how wyrd can replace/remove taint. (some sort of anti Magnagora attack, that can be coupled with an anti Celest attack, that blocks out the light with shadows)
Something weak, but RP meaningfull to remove ambiguity.

I'm curious what the actual problem is this time.
Population is up, check.
Afaik some decent credit buyers, check.
Engaged in conflict, check.
Much more tolerance for idiots than before, check.
Anyone know?

Still only 15% cultural activity, like its always been. instead of the 25% that it should be.

Maybe the real solution is to make Celest less appealing.

Heh I say it be Serenwilde then. Currently highest numbers goes to them.

Diamante, The problem is that Glomdoring doesn't grow as much as the other organizations, and Estarra has given the players enough time to try to fix the situation on their own. This came up the same time last year, there's been a whole year to improve the situation.
Basically I think it's a case of resources. Should Lusternia continue to support Glomdoring as it is if the population is so low that it's hard to get players involved? I'm getting the sense that either a radical change will be suggested (or forced) by the admin (such as perhaps the commune becoming completely untainted but yet different enough from Serenwilde), or otherwise the commune will be shut down. It's not fair for a small population to have their own guilds, gods, and community. Resources would be better spent developing other things...why support something like Glomdoring when you could support another city like Hallifax or Gaudigulch, or otherwise expand the three existing organizations with more archetypes.
I say that not to upset the players--it would be tragic to lose the community and there would likely be some players who would quit completely. I'm sure the admin are working hard to prevent that from happening.
Part of the problem is not up to the Glomdoring players, however. How the Serenwilde and the Cities treat Glomdoring would be important to factor in. The goal is for Glomdoring to be different enough for conflicts with the commune to occur, while similar enough for a possible City-vs-Commune conflict. It also has to be appealing enough for new players or existing players to join. The constant "emo" jabs sort of tell me most players think Glomdoring is not an appealing place to belong to.
That's the key thing--Glomdoring to survive needs to be as appealing as the other three organizations, in their own way.

Yeah, no.
First of all there's no way they'd EVER shut down an entire organization, they'd have to be completely insane. What are they going to do with the 4 (5, when emofist comes in) guilds in Glomdoring? Just throw away all the work they did on their skills, and on the commune itself?
I really don't understand what the "problem" with Glomdoring is this time; we're clearly doing fine as an organization, and we aren't really having growth problems anymore. We may be a bit smaller at times, but I think that's mostly just because the general concept of Glomdoring isn't appealing to everyone, and that isn't really something we can do anything about.

I think there's precedent in IRE for a really small community to get shut down. (Didn't it happen in Aetolia?) And I agree it would be a mess, but I have a feeling at a certain point they'd have no choice.
I also know that's going to be a last-resort choice. So I do sympathize.
Shamarah2007-08-31 14:00:57
Hashan was destroyed when the game opened, it was never a player city to begin with. Aetolia did destroy its Priest guild, but it was part of the game design that the Priests would be destroyed and be replaced by the Luminaries, as they were. Imperian did destroy its Amazon guild, but they were basically a copy of the Warden guild anyway which was kept, so they didn't really lose much.

I don't think there's any way they'd close Glomdoring. In addition to all the work, they'd alienate soooo many players and completely reduce any sense of security people have in investing in this game.
Also, the emo jabs don't have anything to do with it - Serenwilde gets "mudsexing novices" jabs and...uh...snugglers, right. And our numbers are fine.

yeah but we totally get all the snugglers and novices having babies out of nowhere

We don't get all of them!
And there aren't -that- many of the latter category...although I do think we get all of them. ANYWAY THAT'S NOT THE POINT.

I am pretty new to the commune and speaking from that point of view it just doesn’t seem like an overly friendly place. I mean really we are all supposed to be there to support each other and the commune. It is very difficult to feel like you are part of the community. You greet the commune when you arrive and if you are lucky a couple of people will greet you back.
I think all new players understand that we have to work to become part of anything, but you would think that the commune would work equally as hard to let new members know we are welcomed and wanted.
I am too new to speak about specific skills that might aid RP, but I can speak about general RP. It is vitally important that the commune offer a connection with its members. Even when there are a substantial number of members about the commune channel it is still totally quiet. You hear the occasional request to be unblocked and the ‘Nothing matters but Glomdoring†chant, but what does it really mean to new members???
I understand that people are busy doing whatever, but again there has to be something, some time allotted with the specific purpose of forming bonds not only to the commune but also with each other.
While I find it very very difficult to become part of the community I have decided to stick with things in the hopes that I will discover some unity, a common purpose or something.

since the last meeting, glomdoring's population certainly is up. we lost a good group of characters recently, but before that... we didn't lose any and pulled in quite a few for a good while. i know comparing it to my early days when i'm around, there seems to be at least double the amount of people around (though admittedly back in those days once in a while i could be the only one as i mentioned elsewhere)

-Insert good points about unity and new members-
That is something I really struggled, and do struggle with still, in Glomdoring. It's supposed to be a Forest of No Mercy - but not to its own members, not as it is now. It's become rather wishy-washy towards outside influences (except Serenwilde, as that's a given, even though that feeling has become watered down - as far as I have seen)...and the RP has been turned into a weapon to its own members instead of against the outside forces. That, and the actual RP has become too self-focused, and not for the org that the concept grew with. Most of the novices don't really understand what "Glory be to Glomdoring" should mean in game, because it isn't really expressed or outwardly felt anywhere else in the commune, apart from the few odd ducks who are very loud with it. As my character has brought up multiple times IC - it's also grown rather stagnant. Nothing is really done, apart from in-fighting and building of tensions amongst the ranks. "We're a unit, but only until it requires something of me, then you're on your own" is not the mentality that should be expressed - yet it is one that many of the novices raise in concern to Taja.
Edit: Part I forgot to make; problem I see is that it is gearing towards keeping alts around, rather than really keeping new folk around...and, frankly, just keeping alts around won't help it grow and continue to really sustain itself.

I agree with both paragraphs. It would be nuts to close Glomdoring at this point, and really stupid.
Glomdoring has been doing better, its actually able to stand up to Serenwilde, it gets villages. Not sure what else can be done other then increasing the amount of novices that stay in the game as a whole.
