There's that weird rumour about people being nasty to you on purpose (and trying to ruin your reputation in the commune) so that when you are contested for Dark Marshall you'll lose.

Not that I know of-- I've actually been trying to help, and even posted a "how to" on running a referendum / the campaigning for said referendum for him. Unfortunately, when you start off your career picking on a GM, it puts you in a bit of a hole that takes a bit of work to climb out of.

From what I have seen myself, the responses to him have been in reaction to his decisions (which he can change if he wants). It takes a heck of a lot of work to walk the path of daggers (shameless ripoff), but I've not given up on him yet, and I think he's still got a chance if he works at it.

PS. If you think Yeralih and Shayle are part of a "clique"... they've been political rivals since ages unimagined.

Thanks so much for shedding light on the fact that this happens! I know some people think I'm being paranoid or pulling statements out of a hat. Frankly, I'm rather confounded that this happens and is considered status quo. After over a decade of playing MUDs, I have never seen an org where this was endemic. Rather, in my experience, OOC pressures were rare and if it was revealed there was OOC pressure, then players generally took a grim view on the situation. Perhaps times have changed!

In fairness, I would say that such things are more status quo amongst a particular group of people in Glomdoring, not Glomdoring in specific, and Xavius happens to be in that group.

@Ash: Have you met Yeralih?

Yeralih spends entirely too much time on the rare occasions we speak detailing why I'm a horrible person and attempting to destroy everyone because I don't do exactly what she says.

Dude, Ash was engaged to her decades ago, so yes. Does not change a damn thing. You don't lock up the Marshal and blackmail him. You just don't.

I know this is a serious conversation, but the way you said that made me laugh. Imagining Glomdoring's Marshall banging on the other side of a door bellowing threats while an angry Yeralih stands on the other side screaming back.

I guess this maybe falls under people's tolerance for different kinds of RP. To me, Yeralih plays a character who is crabby on her better days and downright neurotic at her worst, but she loves Glomdoring and loves the Blacktalon, and the collision of those forces produces all kinds of interesting behavior.

I've been on the receiving end of eruptions of Mount St. Yeralih sometimes, too, and, yes, sometimes I've even OOCly been irritated by it. But having said that, Yeralih is also one of my favorite characters to interact with, even when we're fighting. She contributes a lot to the "denizens of Glomdoring" and the personalities that define it.

When IRE turns the servers off, someday, and Lusternia will just be a bunch of static, magnetic records on a hard drive somewhere, I'll remember characters like Yeralih. I'm not so sure I would remember several others.

Anyway, I'm defeating my original point. This isn't a thread about Yeralih or any other particular Glomdoring personality, and I'd rather not see it devolve into who a discussion of who we do and don't like and who Glomdoring would be better off with or without. We'd get a lot of different answers on that, anyway.

Clearly we should just boot everyone and leave me, Yates, Banazken, Nott, and...umm, ebonguard novice...Verran. We can rebuild from there.

I call it the "Unholy Alliance" and giggle madly to myself every time I think about it.

I think one of Glom's problems is communication. Even on the Shadow Court, there were about three or four people out of ten or fifteen that bothered to give input on things (that I noticed, I supposed people could have talked when I wasn't playing).

Another of the things that really doesn't help discussions about Glomdoring is that many of the established players and those in positions of power say that they don't see any problem. I've been guilty of this too, but I've noticed that this happens in discussions about Glomdoring most of the time.

What's the best Glom guild nowadays, anyways? And please compare ONLY Glom guilds. I don't want anyone to throw in Hartstone or Nihilists.

Hartstone isn't a Glom guild? Are you sure? It would explain so much.

Yeah, but Yrael, you're Yrael. You are a horrible person. It's even on your business card.

I have a hypothetical. If the leadership in Glomdoring, specifically the core of hard roleplayers that are being singled out as the only issue, had come to power instead in Celest, Serenwilde, or Magnagora - do you think those nations would now be in Glomdoring's position?

I keep trying to win Serenwilde's elections on the Progressive ticket, but it hasn't happened yet. When it does, though, and I'm shipping in the swamps and the giant spiders, we'll see.
Furien2007-09-01 18:36:34
Well, I always did think Glomdoring had it better with its own bashing area/20 cave and swamp rooms vs. Seren's..six.
Hyrtakos2007-09-01 18:39:47
well the problem with glomdoring leadership is that even with new leaders... things don't change!

one of the first things veyda did after being elected was tell the court whom he was appointing to ambassador. to my knowledge things like that were what xenthos caught a bad rap for... and he never did anything of the sort. i know of at least one other person that applied for the position, and regardless of if i thought that person would have been a better candidate, if you're going to play the "let's work as a commune" card... how about letting us know and get in on such things?

i like veyda, even with the fact that he likes to perpetuate rumours about me tongue.gif, but i just don't think he'll change things there... and hyrtakos certainly doesn't considering how he performed as ebonguard GA. he contested for that position who knows how many times, finally got it, kept it a few weeks maybe, and then quit the guild

glomdoring, and seemingly even the admin, are talking as if it's just time to change. we don't know what to change, but we just need to change. that has "bad news" written all over it, but what can you do? eventually i think glomdoring will become desensitized to politics and everything else within the commune. it's just not going to matter how things end up, and it already doesn't to a certain extent

Says the British person. Stones in glasshouses. And I would never live in Melbourne. I'd be sodomised and murdered by policemen within an hour of arriving. I am curious as to how you got a recent picture. I'm FAAHHHBBULOUS, dahling.
Jack2007-09-02 01:11:52

EDIT: heh. If I knew all I needed to do to neuter Glom-centric threads was post retarded MS paint pictures I would've started doing it ages ago.
Daganev2007-09-02 21:18:12
Geez, based on everything you are saying, maybe I'll just have Daganev run as Marshal tongue.gif

Ash, I told you specificaly that the guild was empty, and the only way to bring the population back up was to sit around, and interact with guildmembers, and doing things with them. You have to reach out to the guild members. Its pretty crappy what you did to me. (i.e. not spending any time acting as guildmaster or be willing to listen to my advice on how to deal with people in the shadowcourt.)

Although honestly, I bet you that Daganev has objectvly done things much worse than either Shayle or Xenthos, and he never gets blamed for anything tongue.gif
