Okay, since I am sick, and stupid, I live GMT +1. What are the times of the quiz, and, more importantly, the one with the lessons and credits ()
Shiri2007-09-09 07:14:14
Start (quiz): 8PM England, 9PM Austria, 5AM whatever part of Australia Elryn's in.
Credits: midnight England (ARGH won't be there), 1AM Austria.

Shiri2007-09-09 07:39:34
CORRECTION!
The credits are 1AM England, 2AM Austria.
I think I can work around that.

The Quiz should be starting at 9PM in England.
Unknown2007-09-09 07:47:12
I'm just going to be on from about 4 to 6 and hope I get my credits and lessons.

Yeah, my times were all an hour back. *flail*
Simimi2007-09-09 07:51:29
So China which is GMT+8, so the credits would be 8am Monday morning here, right?
Shiri2007-09-09 07:52:18
EDIT: Wait, no.
Ordos2007-09-09 07:54:01
Well, no free credits and lessons for me, I know some lovely parents would kill me if I got on at 2am, I'm probably gonna count sheep when you're enjoying those lovely "blessings"

I'm reasonably sure that this is correct, and should help with conversions:
For the starting event: http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtim...ec=0&p1=137
And for the freebies: http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtim...ec=0&p1=137
You may notice that linked site says "Los Angeles time". The converter functions based on location rather than timezone, but Los Angeles is in the PST timezone.

Who the invented Daylight Savings Time?!
That would be the United States Congress, who renewed the idea in the 1980s, on the theory that it would reduce energy consumption by Americans in the evenings by taking advantage of natural light and thus arbitrarily decided to change the time of day. However, evidence of any "savings" by the practice of DST is inconclusive at best, and some studies suggest that it actually raises the overall cost of electricity by increasing peak hour consumption. Quite brilliant legislation, really.
The original idea comes from some time in the early 1900s, however.

You should either change the lusternia clock to PST or announce the events in UTC, it is a lot easier to convert the times with using the difference between the lusty clock and my computer clock then using a timeconverter that gets it wrong most of the time
Unknown2007-09-09 12:12:37
I honestly think the Admin should bother about all their members. People in America just have to be on at about 5 PM or something.
We get 1 AM. How is that fair?!

Heck. So wait, if I'm at GMT+8 now, it'll be at.. 8am? Or 9am? Argh.

Actually, when Estarra uses PST I think she means PDT. Technically, PST is the time if you were still under PST, PDT is the time with the Daylight Savings added, otherwise the time zone is known as PT. Technically, during daylight savings time your local time is DT, so where I am right now its 8:00AM EDT, 7:00AM EST. That's something I see a lot of people forget all the time.
It's important to make the distinction because UTC is the time calculator for time zones, thus EST is UTC-5, EDT is UTC-4.
Actually, it falls back as far as Ben Franklin. Daylight Savings Time was something endorsed by both England and the US (called Summer Time over there). War Time was used in World War I, and the concept was
coded into law. "War Time" was mandated during World War I. After that, it was a state-set thing until 1966 when the government decided to make it a federal thing, although the start and end times would change periodically.
It was messy when Congress recently extended the period of Daylight Savings Time, forcing a lot of computer upgrades to how computers calculate this. Some large calendar-applications and mail systems got confused.
I'm sorry I won't be able to make it, but I have to cut my "off-duty" computer time for my sanity (stressful coding project makes me not want to use computers much afterward), and I said in-game I'd be gone for a "2-3 year period". But I hope it's fun. I'm curious as to what's being sold at the auctions, though I've already spent my "credit budget" until December.

Re: Daylight Savings, the government in my state is trialling it for the next couple of years. That makes me even MORE confused, and to make matters worse, the other states in the country might be adding even more hours, so that we'd have to extend the amount by which we extend OUR time, and oh God what's happening!
PS. Thanks Shiri, 9am should be manageable.
