Fear the boogie Mal!
People seem to be getting personal here, why? Its not needed, give advice and try to let that be OK. So someone is new or rants. Heck as a kiddo in combat I ranted a fair bit too. But now I have practice and know more than I once did.
@Bianca: I only assume who you are my Faelin sister. But if you need help.. ask! Are you even in the Scourge Academy? I have fought every archetype some, and I had tarot, and now have astrology. Tarot was never my specialty, mainly because the majority of our combat with tarot is hangedman, aeon, and soulless. I can see why you would want faeling, for fling speed, but really that helps with those three cards (moon isnt bad, and lust definitely has use, the other three are just the stand outs for often use). Aslaran are slower on tarot but get better con, eq, etc etc, and honestly you dont want to have to be sipping a ton or that means you are getting hit alot (in groups thats expected) when you should be able to hold them better.
A good bit for handling monks:
-Hangedman and web (shackles from symbol too)
-Demon invests
-Use puer if you need to cure up wounds a little better (dropping a wound rank can really help)
-Quickening is nice to grab time to cure, use web, puer, timeslip, and syphon
A bit for handling most everyone:
-We thrive on offense, the best defense is a darn good offense
-Quickening is grand for many uses! Wrack is 5p and soulless is 0! You wont be using it with sacrifice, but thats ok!
-Races stuff (see below)
There is a bit to consider on the main races of the guild (not all of them have to be used though!):
Faeling:
-Great for flings, best to buy time with hangedman usually, great for aeon, very nice sipping.
-Low health, and nothing for eq.
Aslaran:
-Slower tarot than faeling, still better than most, minor eq bonus, resist cold.
-Sip penalty is the worst thing really and you get used to it
Furrikin (note Aiakon might eat you ):
-Minor bonuss, resist cold and magic, and its really tiny (diminish would put you at size 3...), natural tumble!
-Low str no biggy, but slightly lower con and int for what that matters
Mugwump:
-Amazing speed for draining and all non tarot skills (nihilism and nero) means fast options, high int too!
-Weaknesses can hurt, keep proofings up to help with it, and let your offense keep you safe
Viscanti:
-Resistances and regens are ok, big on role play, also get high int but without bonuss
A word on tertiary!:
Tarot:
-Main skill forever, aeon is reliable, soulless is grand (though I didnt tend to use it), amazing utility
-Lack of many offense based cards (that are of major use... hehe justice.. what a laugh)
Hexes:
-High affliction rate, reliable vapors, combos are hexable
-No aeon, no utility
Astrology:
-Ok.. let me be fair.. I am a very tactical person and took this after getting tired of the drudge of aeon reliance which I despise so there might be a little bias. I adore astrology, while the aeon is unreliable it helps make up for it by combinations and spheres. Dropping a persons max health or mana are grand for both damage and mana kills. Spheres let you alter con, int, dex, fire damage resistance, physical resist, focus and writhe times, magic resist, etc etc. Spheres either help you attack someone, or give you a buff. I have found astrology to be a very strategic skillset as you can alter to fit your needs. For instance make a person take more from magic and drop max health, then quicken and start attacking. I enjoy the variety and even find myself looking forward to checking the stars. ---important note, this one does not require an eq race, though if all your skills are eq based you might want it. Astrology is quick, which is part of why it can work---
-to be fair you can be more screwed if stars arent happy, nativity is nice, but sometimes the nativity doesnt let you do much so you rely on other things. I will note you can do things without aeon, it just takes more setup (spheres usually).
Hope all that helped! Was a fair bit of typin, dont get discouraged because people complain, or I might not post either! If you need more help ask or message IG

Bianca, may like to lose the persecution complex sunshine, then you might find people to be helpful. Instead of things like:
A better one is "Anyone got some advice for handling this?" instead of crying "This is unfair" (and thusly overpowered by definition).
If you're genuinely keen on combat, then yeah you are going to get your ass handed to you a fair bit. Everyone has had to go through the phase of getting their ass kicked over and over till they learn how to deal. The good news is however, with a slight attitude re-adjustment and the desire to get better and win rather than lose and complain, you'll find there are a few people who would be willing to help.
Malarious has offered his services to help you, he's a pretty decent nihilist, and hell i'll even give you a few pointers too since I was champ of nihilists for a while and pretty much know the good ways and the bad ways to kill as a tarot user (I was aslaran tarot) and performed pretty well as a nihilist, you just need to but ask.
EDIT: I'm sure if you do a name search in here for Murphy, you'll find some absolutely crazy rants, fire and brimstone style with a side of hatred. They generally don't get you anywhere, which i learnt in time, and now i rant less and think more. If you honestly think a skill is overpowered, you can send a message to me (I'm an envoy) and i'll send something back to you with either a way to deal with it, or i'll bring it up amongst the others if it's credible. You may or may not get a return message with a suggestion to harden up if it's specifically idiotic, but i'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and hope you wouldn't do something like that.

That's...totally ridiculous. They shouldn't get three hits as if they were one..and each one counts separately. That dosen't make any kind of sense.

alright sorry If I sounded rantish all the time. I am honestly trying to learn about combat instead of just being a b*tch ranting all the time. Ask Thoros, I've listened him talk about nihilist combat for quite a while. When he's around and I have trouble I usually bug him or Lyco. Nihilist combat has a rather steep learning curve.
I either find myself completly destroying people....or...like when I face any kind of bard that knows what they are doing...get totally destroyed.
Thanks malarious, that really does help

From my point of view (I have yet to fight much in Lusternia, none at all as a Tahtetso - though I understand the basics and I understand how combat works for damn sure).. I am very unimpressed with the Tahtetso skill set. I got it from Master to Trans last night because I had moved Rodngar from Blademaster in Serenguard to Tahtetso in Celest. It took me a few minutes to really learn how to use Kata (thank you to Desitrus - he and I both know how different it is from most classes I'm familiar with), but I got it down. I also learned ka weight pretty quick from him.
If I understand correctly, Shofangi does not have the complicated vibrations stuff about halfway up their skill set? That kind of bothers me. It feels like Tahtetso was overly complicated due to a very simple and almost awesome idea. Setting vibrations to your tahto would be cool - if the attacks were worth it and could be set up so that we could use them reliably for the most part. Some are easy to pull off (Goti'sho, probably Bai'insho) - but others like Gahtirak'sho are just terribly complicated for a simple kill or fight. In my opinion, Tahtetso needs to go through a few changes to either remove the vibration stuff (and keep or scrap most of the vibration stuff along with it) or make it a lot more of a flowing factor. Unless I'm reading wrong, we have no form modification to gain vibration instead of from other skills. From what I'm told by a few Tahtetso, the skill set also does a negligible amount less than Kata punches and kicks but is stopped by rebounding - making it much less desirable to use anyways.
A lot of problems have to be addressed with the skill - you're crying nerf because apparently most combatants use PPK. Honestly? Let us figure it out and let us get a reason to use our specializations - then you can cry as many rivers as you like.
EDIT: Also, Katas are spammy - can we get a removal or toggle to get rid of the bolded part as follows, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE?

You attempt the kata form of bash.
* ka tahto rat left
With a quick spin, you strike a rat with a battered tahto staff.
* ka tahto rat right
With a quick spin, you strike a rat with a battered tahto staff.
Unable to withstand more punishment, a rat collapses and dies.
You have slain a rat.
You are unable to continue executing your kata form.

That's what I wrote, I simply turned it off for the sake of the post.
It still gives me an annoying little blank spot, though. I think I know why, however. Ah well.

Just a tip, you shouldn't assume people are jumping on you. A lot of people on these forums (combatants especially) can sound brusque, especially if they were themselves Tahtetso who felt your call for a nerf was unnecessary or unjustified.
I can't offer much combat advice, but don't take things people say here to heart; don't be too thin-skinned; and if you're arguing with Murphy, it's a case of "he who swears, wins"

You seem to be under the impression it'll get you anywhere. ARguing with Murphy, even if you win, will just result in him shrugging and running off to find one of his mates to shag.

Are monk designs flawed? ... YES. How you would debate this is beyond me.
Are they overpowered? ... NO
What is wrong with them? They are unbelievably boring to fight as and predictable to fight against. There is just something very unappealing to me in pressing the alias, grabbing a drink, sitting back, and saying, "Gee. I sure hope this works out for me."
I would rather fight as a monk in Imperian with just their extremely simple combos. Much more fun having to read and react to parry and work towards double breaks and stuff.
