Well I've played tons of MUDs, not limited to IRE's and am looking to see if Lusternia has an active RP community, or if its like the IC liteness of Achaea. I've always liked the races and history of Lusternia but always seemed to pick dead guilds when I tried to play over a year ago.

To keep this short, which guilds would you say actively RP? Which city/communes would be a good place to start off for someone looking for IC interaction (preferably not snuggly)?

Depends on what KIND of RP you want. Dunno about Celest RP, the couple I've spoken to are way to 'Hi how are you! Come to the light! It loves you!' but I understand most of Celest isn't like that. Seren is the snuggles commune so I don't suppose you want there. Glom is getting alot better. I can speak the most about Mag. It's very Hierarchical. The highest ranks mean more than the lowest. Elitist families. I enjoy it, but not for everyone

Think of Celest more as... embrace the Light, Tainted one, or we're going to end your life for you so your suffering ends.

All the guilds in Lusternia actively RP it is heavily frowned upon if you do things based on OOC Motive. Lusternia has a rich culture though and all the different guilds and organizations have their own culture. Some places have a deeper and more interesting point of view, but everyone role plays. When discussing "role play" a lot of people get the words role play mixed up with culture and you get theses phrases "Organization A has better role play than Organization B" but it isn't so. Organzation A may just have a more interesting culture.

There is no "snuggly" organization in the basin. Every organization is out for themselves and would go through any means to empower themselves. People in the thread may claim that one org is more "snuggly" than the other but that is because are using one or two different individuals to generalize the rest of the people in the entire organization.

And if you're talking about, say, the Aetolian roleplay community - yes. They're a bit hard to find, but they're there, as many, many people are just doing something rather than roleplaying.

And then there are those that just sit at the nexus trying to convince themselves to go and do something, but oh well.

And I suppose you ever had a Serenwilde character? Or is it just another oft-repeated stereotyped rumour?

Serenwilde has snuggle-idiots, so does every other org (mostly "good" ones, because oppressive atmospheres of evil orgs drives them away or forces them to hide). It doesn't mean that they are completely devoid of RP, on the contrary. Every organisation comes with its own different flavour of roleplaying:

Magnagora - corrupted empire (well, not so much of an empire recently) with heavy social stratification. Even if you join a noble house (not an easy task on itself), you still have people above you. If you want to roleplay a power struggle, or are content with being a low-class grunt, this is your best place.

New Celest - they paint themselves as benevolent and, aside from their total fanaticism against Taint, tend to be so. Most roleplayers from this place that I've seen come in varieties of Scholar, Crusader Knight or The Kind Priest/Matron. Lighter but no less of an atmosphere.

Serenwilde - roleplayers here are mostly fanatics of the spirits (forestal tree/ancestor spirits or the fae, for Stag/Moon inspired characters respectively), or don't think much about supernatural matters, having their own agenda or "just wanting to keep the forest safe".

Glomdoring - never had an alt there, so I won't comment.

And one last bit of advice - if people seem too quiet, talk to them on their own. Most are eager to RP, but don't engage in talks with others often - maybe because they think these other guys are busy on their own or are AFK (against the rules! Bad AFKer, bad!).

Well, I have yet to find the Roleplay community in Lusternia and I'm still searching, a certain sore point for me. In fact, its why I stopped playing for an extended period of time. I've heard things about Glomdoring, but I wouldn't know personally. Frankly, you should just choose a guild your interested in and hope for the best, if you not, repeat. If you try three and still nothing, its better off leaving the game than just trying until you find a roleplaying guild not even in your top three. If you don't really care what guild you're in, then go crazy.
Amarysse2007-10-02 08:23:37
I happened to luck into meeting some really excellent roleplayers rather early on in my Lusternian career. Certain organizations have a reputation for excellent (or poor) RP, but it really boils down to the individuals with whom you're interacting. Mindlessly spouted catchphrases or dogma do not an engaging roleplayer make, after all. It's the degree to which they make their unique role their own that's important.

Your best bet is to choose a guild that appeals to you, and start looking from there. As it's been written elsewhere, don't expect RP to come to you, or to happen just by virtue of your presence. Seek it out. Talk to people wandering on the road, ask questions, engage in philosophical discussions with members of opposing organizations. Pick someone's brain, literally or figuratively! Actively pursue your character's hobbies and attempt to rally others to your causes.

It's been my experience that like attracts like here, and those who are known for their ability to roleplay convincingly and engagingly are almost always on the lookout for others of similar interests and talents. Just be persistent and take the initiative, and I've no doubt you'll enjoy the time you spend in-character.

Kalodan and a few others painstakingly prevent Serenwilde into becoming a snuggly place. The CT aether always has interesting talk. I've just recently made an alt in Glomdoring, and one difference is that people smile in Serenwilde. happy.gif

Never had a Celest alt. Somehow, I've been scared of Light organizations since I came from Shallam in Achaea. mellow.gif I have a character in Magnagora, though, and I REALLY like the 'you're dirt, get out of my way' feel of the place. Elitism.

I'm sorry to hear that you were not able to find anyone to roleplay with. In my experience there are people that more often roleplay than guilds. And they usually do not do it over city/guild aethers. The exception was yesterday when Celest had a conversation about Glomdoring being Tainted or not morph into one about the political structure of organizations. A good six people (names escape me, three of which were novices!!!! Awesome) participated.

So here is a list of people I know roleplay and roleplay well. Some have leadership positions and may be busy the time you approach them. Consider this a rave for you all and I don't mean to leave anyone out.

Celest
--------

Aison -- Celestine
Kaalak (me) -- Celestine/Order of Lord Elostian!!

Rogues
--------
Richter -- owns his own city.

Heh. 85 years of being a rogue counts for something, I geuss. That and most Admins hate me. halo.gif When I got bored, I'd hold a full length conversation with fae, not even letting them get a word in. Or a few times, I just sat at the aetherplex, handing out flowers and cookies. That and I had an intense discussion with a pilgrim a few times. Same one. He kept going on and on about "The end of the world!".wub.gif the Divine

Just look around! Everyone's always roleplaying something. To be honest, when there's a wedding, I always attend. I wub.gif weddings; always get teary eyed as I remember them first entering into Lusternia. cry.gif

I would not call myself the "cornerstone" of any RP, Kaalak. I just play what I hope is an entertaining character. I think there are more serious characters who have "more to do" may deserve better credit.

As far as the lol goes--I'm hoping it's just based on the cornerstone credit, which I'd agree with. If not, I think lol is more insulting as it's more of an derision rather than a criticism--sort of the new "talk to the hand". I have always tried to alter my behavior to prevent it from irritating people, so I always welcome criticism.

One thing that is troubling me lately in Lusternia is it seems people are multitasking--that is playing the game while being on IM or in IRC or perhaps an OOC clan, or doing something where their concentration is lost, preventing others from having conversation. I've noticed more people are posting OOC quotes instead of funny stuff that happens in-game by means of natural conversation. I'm sort of in a unique position because I really don't have any OOC friends from the game at all.

Zeofar's note concerns me--I'm finding when I go into places nowadays half the time I don't get a response to a hello or how are you. I think if you're going to play the game, put your primary attention into it, and not elsewhere. I hope I'm just worrying about nothing.

...

I'm sorry I don't play the game how you want me to?

(yes, I realize the post was not directed at me specifically)
Unknown2007-10-04 01:48:56
The point I was making was that if people do too many things at once, it might affect the quality of the experience of Lusternia. If you spend too much time distracted by tons of communication channels, it may have an impact on the game. There's more scientific evidence showing how people who "multi-task" aren't accomplishing much.

I don't mind people who just want to bash and spend minimal time in "RP fluff" if you're the kind who likes questing and hunting. But I'm more concerned about the guy who spends one eye on Lusty, one eye on IRC, one eye on AIM, etc, and who ends up not really playing. When I did use IRC, I don't think I ever logged onto the game at the same time.

Granted, I'm probably reading into things a little too much, but my biggest concern would be for people to start turning Lusternia into an erstaz social network. If you find yourself spending more time talking on an OOC clan than with your novices and your community mates, there could be a problem.
Unknown2007-10-04 02:08:30
There is a difference between multi-tasking and not wanting to socialize.

1. It's always been that way.

2. This is moderately disturbing, because we used to be RP elitists around here, and it has admittedly gone downhill.

I actually told everyone in House d'Murani that they aren't allowed to post quotes from the clan any more. Naturally one or two might slip through from the family members who aren't around as much, but I didn't really like the idea that OOC quotes could potentially affect how people viewed the family's roleplay.
