Can we just make a message balance instead of having it take regular eq? This way, it doesn't spam the system and yet still allows people to message on the go, so to speak.

Unless messages can be forced, i think it's fine the way it is

Could anyone explain to me -why- it needs to take balance or anything? I understand that there is a reason, I just don't know what it is

Can't you still do that with tells?

Messages can be done while offline. At least with tells, it requires you being online so you can SNUB or TELLSOFF. I guess that's the reasoning.

Considering the little eq requirement now for messaging, I think silly people can still send you 5000 hello messages, considering you must be pretty bored in the first place to do it. If you send 5000 messages without the 0.5 secs of eq, then you will probably continue to do the same with 0.5 or less eq reqs.

It wouldn't necessarily be because you were bored. We have players that use things like scry for the sole purpose of spamming people with Aethersight on. The eq time is probably to stop people spamming the brains off people. But yeah, a separate balance would be nice.

I would guess it's to make it a little more difficult to rack up a huge amount of messages, since you can lag out the entire game by checking huge message boxes. Chasm+lag-on-demand ftw!
