Dunno if any of you have come across Pox Nora, but I know there are quite a few of you guys into M:tG and Warhammer and stuff, so I thought I'd throw up a link.
Pox Nora
Its pretty much a CCG but its played out like a tactical RPG. You build a deck of 20 'runes', consisting of Champions (creatures), Spells, Relics, and Equipment, and then during the games you reveal a set number of runes each turn, summoning them through use of Nora (mana) which you gain each turn. You summon the creatures onto a full map and move them around and attack and such. Your Champions also gain xp for combat, allowing you to upgrade their abilities in exchange for a higher summoning cost.
There are 8 factions to choose from, split into 2 alignments--the "Protectorate", and the "Wrath". You get bonuses for either building a deck solely from 20 runes of a single faction, or a 10/10 split between two factions.
Its really quite fun, and they've got a nifty feature called the Drums of War, which, if you play ranked games, not only does your own rank rise or fall, but that of your alignment as a whole. So you can see which faction is the underdog or which is on top if that sort of thing floats your boat.
It costs money though to buy boosters and xp/reset tokens, but you can buy them based on alignment to try and get better things for your deck, which, being made up of only 20 cards, means you can start playing with a pretty small investment. There's also a free mode of the game that lets you play preconstructed decks against other preconstructed decks, if you just want to try the mechanics. Its played through java, so you can play from any computer.
Anyway, I find the game enjoyable, so, I thought I'd let some of you guys check it out too.
Edit: Also, as another positive note, the game is very well balanced and constantly being updated (in ways that most CCGs just couldn't be), given that the Drums of War also shows "Win Percentage" and it hovers between about 47% and 53% for each faction.

Oh yeah, I remember a few people playing this. I tried it once with Tuek and got my ass kicked so I kind of gave up. I was never really into card games like Magic and all that.

I've started playing. It's a lot of fun. I haven't decided what faction I want to focus on, but I'm liking Forsaken Wastes, Underdeapths, and the Folgram Swamp (I can't remember if that's the right one.)
Krellan2007-10-17 21:46:20
omg why is there a Krellen ranked #3 in the top 20 there?!

I've been playing alot.

I'm running Underdepths myself.
Forsaken Wastes was tempting. A lot of the units seem fun, and some of the spells are eeevil.
I just really enjoy the game, especially the ability to level up your runes. I'm running my deck right now, and I just feel a great sense of accomplishment when I get enough experience for a new ability. I think that's something it definitely has over M:tG. I mean, I played M:tG for years, but I think this is a superior way to play.
So far I've been lucky though, and by playing in the lower tiers, I haven't run into any majorly cheap tactics, which is refreshing.
If you're looking for any Wrath-aligned runes, I've got a few that I can toss you even for just a gold token or two. Always willing to help out Lusty players.

it looked really cool and then I started looking through it and noticed you had to buy if you wanna go through the whole process of getting experience and being able to upgrade. I was hoping you'd be able to get experience and upgrade and then the whole buying part was for like advanced upgrades
Oh well, I'm gonna try the free group anyways and see how that goes.

Yeah way to go Krellan, way to really stick your foot out there into unknown territory. You're really a super guy!
I like it so far, Balizar has utterly annihilated me every single game though

Yeah Underdepths seems pretty good. I prefer K'Tir, Ironfist Stronghold, or Shattered Peaks - haven't decided... although the shattered peaks faction bonus is probably the best. I think the game has alot of potential, there just aren't that many cards though. Currently something like 470-500 I think? That's not alot. I'm annoyed at seeing almost everyone use the Dwarven King. Or seeing runepacks that just utilize the strongest cards + nora miners (completely leveled up). After beating Kharvik for the 1000th time I decided to splurge on a membership and a few card packs. Woo. Making my deck now.
Krellan2007-10-20 08:28:25
ohh well I"m gonna play my first training game and then get the feel for it then I'll try out the other starters. I'll probably never buy any of the packs though. Never bought for Lusty either
Krellan2007-10-20 09:14:55
I've only gotten to play two games and people have quit both times after I killed something
Does seem like it would be a lot of fun if you got to make your own deck too.

I tried it a couple of months back. Didn't like it.
(That may have been because I sucked at it)

There's definitely a learning curve. Like there are games that I lose that, after their over, I realize if I had done one thing different at the end, rather than get caught up thinking i was going to win, I would have. Like I'll seriously be one turn away from taking down my opponent's shrine, and I'll have a way to secure the victory, but I'll just royally blow it.
But that's actually a whole lot of fun, especially when I'm playing against decks that are blatantly made with the strongest cards they can find, and mine isn't, and I still have the ability to win games. That makes the game really enjoyable for me.
And yeah, Underdepths are fun, but they're tough due to a lack of range and AoE spells.
Also, soon, they're going to be coming out with cheap starter packs you can buy rather than random boosters.
And Krellan, if you end up enjoying the game, maybe some of us here will send you some spare cards so you can build a deck without having to buy? I'd be willing to donate a few runes, especially since i'm focused on my one deck at the moment. Though, that's assuming trades can be done with one person offering nothing, but I think they can be. Of course, I dunno if you'd ever be able to win a game unless we were very generous, but who knows.

Even some of the commons are really useful. I've been using a pure FW deck mostly (Loooove the Necromancy bonus. My 16 cooldown Necrotaur comes back in 6.) and my Dark Messenger is actually really useful. It's so fast that even if it's only doing 8 damage each attack, it still gets to attack twice almost every turn. And it's good for blitzing the shrine. So it wouldn't be that bad. He'd just have to lose a bunch of games while leveling the runes first.
On the other hand, it won't let you trade something for nothing, but you can buy the 10 rune boost pack for like 3-4 dollars I think.

10 Runepack is $3, but it comes with both alignments.
25 Runepack based on alignment is just $7 and is enough for a full deck plus some wiggle room.
And yeah, FW is nifty. I'm tempted to run them, but I really want to get a good UD deck first.
I've got a Necromancer, Ghoul, and Reanimate if you're interested, req.

I was more thinking he could buy the 10 pack and we could donate him better runes. The trades don't have to be even, but each party has to offer at least one.

Good point.

I have an account there I play occasionally. I have a strong pure Underdepths deck, a Forsaken Wastes/Savage Tundra shooty deck, and an experimental Forsaken Wastes/Moga deck which is very untraditional and fun to play. Think Moga spawers and Tomb Lords.

ahh that would be annoying. But I don't mind losing at all. I like the endless possibilities factor and the thought of gaining experience and new stats I've always liked doing that. I'm still trying to learn good strategy. I've only played one game for awhile and that was okay? I was that big iron dwarf one and they were the elfen one. I was stuck on the defensive the whole time and I ended up disconnected. I could cave in buy the $3 pack if it was required to trade since I'd just think of that as the cost for buying a game. I could probably also trade credits too! Gives me more motivation to bash and sometimes I actually like to bash. Bulls FTW
Krellan2007-10-20 21:03:26
Kharvik won't play with me
