Think of it this way as well--once the nexii get drained a bit, people will start competing for power again. Which is what I've heard people complaining about.
Constructs Battles will be more important and strategic
Aetherspace will become a place to drain power to fill the nexii
Wild Nodes and Astral Excursions will become more critical.
Political Rank will become more critical.

The only thing I really don't like about this is not being in a Divine order. I think the Ascendant should have an option of whether or not they wish to be a cultist Ascendant or an Ascendant that follows another God... alot of people REALLY like their orders and I for one would be very upset if i had to leave Morgfyre's order if I was raised.
Other than that, I am very excited about this and I think it adds alot more depth to an already amazing game. Great job!

As long as there is a compelling reason for organizations to raise VAs, this could prove very true. All hinges on the benefits to raising one.

I also want to point out that once you raise one, that's it. Max 1 million drain unless he/she goes inactive/traitor.

As to the complaint of Ascendants not being in an Order...I think this wouldn't make sense. Granted the Ascendant is not a full-fledged god, but they are also more than a mortal, even more than a Demigod. It would be like (probably a horrible analogy) having a half-formed in a Divine Order. It just doesn't make sense to me.
...hmm. I think I will propose Hallen become Magnagora's first Vernal Ascendant just to see how quickly I get shot down.

Not really. Glomdoring has 2.7mil power right now, losing 1 million of that isn't exactly going to make us stretched for power.

Yep, but given it's been 3 years and most orgs are right around the 2 million mark all it takes is need a new vernal every 1.5 years or so for power to be pretty depleted. Let's also consider if a VA is an important and somewhat necessary figure, you might have raised one but you are still going to want enough to raise another should that one go inactive/get kicked out/turn traitor. So you'll want a million power on hand at any given time.
Just raising one at this point in the Lusternian timeline is going to make orgs feel the power crunch and make it a lot more interesting and important of a resource again. Assuming they have any interest in keeping a buffer that is.

That's true too, but we have more ways of getting power now (constructs, etc) than existed back then.
Unknown2007-10-18 20:39:40
In this day and age, what's 1 million power? If I were a commune, I don't even think I'd bat an eye. There's no scarcity of resources, there's no impetus to fight for power. Just let it trickle in, in a couple of RL months back to a good standing. Whoopie.
I just find it amusing that there's now an insta-perma-demi available to all orgs. At least they're all equivalent across orgs. If they get org respective powers, my eyes will roll in to the back of my eyes.

You can always create two Vernals, Shamarah. Maybe Kaervas and Marina.
I'm sure Ilyarin will be the one to showcase the new powers. He's the prototype model. So he better start strutting his stuff to the world!

No you can't. You can only have one vernal ascendant at a time.

Right. No one is arguing we would back in the days of negative power but having to expend a million and be prepared to expend another million in an emergency should give some pause. Power is easier to get but a million power is still a lot of power and it does take time to gather. Which is why it would all of a sudden be a lot more important to actually have additional sources of power.
This all assuming there is actually a compelling reason why it's better to have a VA than not have one.

I agree that risks must be taken, but not on this. It's fine if you risk 1 million power on a person who might get ostracized or quit the org, but that's about it. People go inactive for a variety of reasons, some good, some bad, but I feel that it isn't exactly on the same level as ostracization or quitting.
More power needed to do the shifting itself (not 1 mill) would be fine as well.
Edit: Ninjaed by the Admin, ah well.

This is why Power Ministers need to get off their rumps and start organizing power contests with incentives that would make citizens want to compete.

I like the idea, well done Estarra and team.
I do have some untested reservations about Lusternia putting too much emphasis on individual supremecy and achievement, and conceptually on focusing the nations even more tightly into singular expression. I'm hopeful I'm just wrong there though, and diversity and group accomplishment will still feature heavily in the core design principles.
