In a way, this new system puts much more focus on communal (small "c") achievement than the old Vernal God system (at least, as I understand it- I wasn't playing yet when Soll happened). The community selects and empowers their choice, and he/she is linked to the commune/city that raises them.

I'd even say put a fixed amount of constant/periodical power drain, upkeep for the god, to increase the power race as well as the ties to the commune city.

That said, Serens should totally pick Captain Planet.

My especial favorite part is that there's still a way to become an Ascendant without being a Vernal Ascendant. Cause I would never try to become VA (and no one would be silly enough to offer it to me), but maybe, it might be cool to try for TA sometime. And hey, pigs might start growing feathers and I might actually win a contest and get it! (as likely as me winning the lottery IRL, but I buy the occasional lottery ticket so I can play 'what-if' not so I can quit my job! )

I think it is good that they can't join orders so it spreads things around a bit more. The person who is an avatar can't be the same person who is a true ascendant and so on.

I like this a lot better than the old system, as it required players to give up everything they were and everything they had been, every friend they had, and everything about their character that they had built up. I imagine Soll is very excited to be a player again (also, it was amusing doing HONORS ILYARIN and getting Soll's old one.) I'm feeling very inspired to try for Ascendant one day.

One cool ability that Ascendants could get that wouldn't be a direct combat ability could be the power to change their Race once an IC month.

I cannot stress enough how much of an incredibly good choice I think this is. In fact, I kind of disagree with Titan and Demigod powers. Regardless, I'd like to see roleplaying powers such as ways to simulate RP - such as the ability to do room echos, though I highly doubt that'd be allowed unless on a tremendous balance

You like to needle people for some reason. Maybe you find it fun. I don't have a right to dictate how you should do things, nor am I perfect. I have a temper at times, but I try not to act like an idiot. This reminds me of the time when your character would fly around and drop flamed things around cities for whatever reason, or that other time, where you'd fly above nexuses and drop 20-50 items/corpses to spam. This sounds like a cool concept. I hope it presents some interesting role-play if/when the organizations decide they want to raise someone as an Ascendant. I'm looking forward to seeing what neat RP abilities they get as well.
