This is very frustrating, I cannot connect to Lusternia, or to any other IRE mud. It was working just fine a few hours ago, but I got disconnected and I cannot connect to muds anymore. Any suggestions on what might be wrong? I tried both the java clients and MUSH, but to no avail.

Where are you connecting from? May be a firewall issue, where someone said, "Hmm. We have connections to this gaming site. Block!"

I don't think it is a firewall issue on my part. I was playing, then I got disconnected, and I couldn't connect anymore. I leaning towards the second posibility... sad.gif

I don't mean a personal firewall on your end, but if you're connecting from, say, school or work-- the net admins there could easily block IRE, which would explain its not working with multiple connection methods.

Are you able to go to www.lusternia.com?

Yeah, I can connect to it. Nexus starts, but I cannot connect. Same with zmud and mush.

Edit: I cannot connect to any other mud, IRE or not.
This is what I get when I try to connect using telnet: "Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed."

Sounds like the telnet protocol has been disabled wherever you're at. Are you at school or work, or at your home?

Sounds like something blocks port 23 for you.
Can you try another mud that uses a different port?

I'm in my dorm, at college.

Yep, tried Aardwolf (aardmud.org:4010) and it didn't work either.

Bummer.
Any chance you can find someone else in the area and try his PC?

Heh, tried that too. The same. I'm doomed. rip.gif

Sounds like your college blocked it.

You need to go talk to IT.

If it's telnet being disabled, then it shouldn't work no matter what the port is.

The X-man is right. You need to call your school's IT Dept.

There's not really any way to block telnet other than to block ports. More likely, they just went to a "block all ports except good ones" approach -- which would include both the usual telnet port (23) and all the oddball ports that MUDs use to avoid blocks on 23. I wouldn't be surprised if you also couldn't connect to things on odd ports like, for instance, IRC servers on port 7000 (maybe also those on port 6667, the normal IRC port).

Yeah, I asked around and it appears you are right, they blocked most of the ports until the first of November. Thanks for the help guys! smile.gif

I had problems with my router.
