Ok, I wanna see if anyone's interested in doing a Meet thing in the South. I know there's a fair number of us who live in the Southern US, but who, besides me, would like to do this? I was thinking sometime this upcoming summer (to give folks time to save up money and all - plus I hate winter!).

We could...

Get a group of hotel rooms and spend a weekend in Florida near the beach.
Get a group of hotel rooms and spend a weekend in Vicksburg, MS and hang out on a Riverboat Casino.
Get a group of hotel rooms and spend a weekend touring natural wonders in Arkansas.
Get a group of hotel rooms and spend a weekend lounging around in bars and the hotel lobby in any city of any state!
Get a group of hotel rooms and spend a weekend.... doing something I haven't thought of yet cause the idea just occurred to me. (And I just know Arix or someone will make a wonderfully dirty innuendo here. )

I figured a weekend thing would be best cause if I'm gonnna drive or fly into another state, I don't just wanna hang out for a few hours. But if a weekend thing seems a bit much, we could do something else that is more day-trip like.

Anyway, I think it'd be fun and I'd be willing to organize or help organize things (but not pay for everything cause I'm not rich. If we do a weekend thing, folks would have to pay for their own rooms and stuff! ).

You could play Uno. Everybody loves Uno, it's the game most likely to degenerate into a massive orgy or 3-week bender that crosses several state borders

Or Monopoly. Drunken Monopoly is great if you want to be on the world's geekiest episode of COPS

I played that in college once. But I don't drink that much as a rule.

Of course, the goal for this is just to get together and have fun, not to appear on any episode of COPS. Course, one can never plan things out 100%.

I would advise against the riverboat casino. Because if you lose a lot of money, you've nothing to do and nowhere to go until the boat docks. Also, you'd be surrounded by water, another bad thing if you go broke

The boats in Vicksburg don't actually sail. In fact, they'd prolly sink if they tried. They're boat-shaped and in the water, but they're stationary.

Ah, I see. I hear there is a diamond field in Arkansas, where you can go out and hunt for them.

There is! You can rent or buy equipment (anything from heavy gear to simple panning trays) and if you find anything, you get to keep it. A man found a 4 carat stone there recently. There's lots of interesting and fun stuff like that around Arkansas.
