So...last night, my computer just kind of...shut down and restarted on me without my having to do anything actively to do it. Since it was late and all, I decided to just turn the computer off by pressing and holding the power button till things shut down. Now, when I got up to check everything, things seemed fine...internet was still working, but my Zmud is all of a sudden showing me the license agreement after each time I try to open it up. Also, whenever I try to connect to Lusternia, another box opens up with Lusternia in it, black and completely separate from the Zmud box and it doesn't do anything. No prompt, nothing and it's not even responding to being minimized. I can connect to Achaea just fine, all my scripts and stuff there seem to be intact, however, Lusternia isn't the same thing. In any instance I close Lusternia, an error message pops up and...I don't know what to do. Anyone know what's wrong with this?
Xavius2007-11-05 17:21:26
XP or Vista? What's the error message? Is it being called by Windows or zMUD?
Xiel2007-11-05 17:25:35
XP, and the error message popped up first when I started my computer by Windows saying that it had just recovered from a serious error, and then the Lusternia one...the error message says to tell Microsoft about the problem. :/ What does this all mean? -panic-

My first guess, just based on the information here (more would be useful) is that your settings are corrupted. Go to the folder where your information for Lusternia is stored for zMUD, and you'll see two *.mud files, usually Lusternia.mud and Lusternia_bak.mud (or something else, if you changed the 'character' name to something else). Rename the Lusternia.mud file to something else (test.mud?), then rename Lusternia_bak.mud to Lusternia.mud. Try reconnecting and see what happens.
I doubt that is the only problem, but it is one potential problem.
EDIT: Seeing your latest reply, this is probably not the only problem. zMUD is trying to do something that it's not allowed to do; that sort of error is usually caused by a memory leak, infinite loop, or something similar. I'm not sure about any details in this case.

The "Windows has recovered from a serious error" is likely another symptom of what caused the forced reboot. There are a couple of things that can cause forced reboots - overheating (check the holes in your case to make sure they're not clogged, check your fans to make sure they're still spinning and not clogged. Download a utility from the net, if you don't already have one, to check the temps) can cause the computer to immediately restart. That's certainly the most common reason I see for this problem. Also, have you recently installed any new hardware? Extra hard drive, new sound card, anything like that? Extra hardware increases your temp, but it also puts extra strain on the power supply. If the PSU is overstretched, power may be interrupted or the voltage may drop low enough to trigger a reboot.
Driver problems are also often the cause of those problems, especially if, when windows does the forced reboot, for a split-second the screen turns blue with white writing on it, before the screen goes black and the computer restarts. The blue screen is a stop error (google will tell you more about those) and they're caused mostly by driver problems. The computer immediately restarting instead of displaying the error happens in particularly serious cases. Check your drivers to make sure they're all up to date.
If you get the "Windows has recovered from a serious error" box again, click the More Info or whatever button and it'll give you some codes. You can google them to find out exactly what's causing the error.

@Derian: Umm..not exactly sure which I should be renaming since I've Lusternia and then my own scripts and all. Should I rename Lusternia or Xiel?
@Xinael: I'm still utterly lost. My computer seems to be fine, but whenever I try to connect to lusternia, it doesn't do anything but open up the black box and when I right click to clsoe it, the message says that I chose to close an unresponsive program or something.

Open zMUD, and click on the icon you usually use to connect to Lusternia. Click on the 'Edit' button, then go to the 'Files' tab. You'll want to rename the file that is listed in the 'Primary' box. Find that file on your computer and rename it to something random. In the same folder, there will be a file with the same name but _bak appended to the file name (before the extension). This is an automatic backup that zMUD creates and maintains. Rename the primary to something random, then rename the backup to remove _bak and see if that makes a difference. This should restore your settings to before they were corrupted, hopefully.

Okay, I've renamed the Primary to Test, and the bak into Real. Do I go back to the icon, edit, and click the folder for Primary from Xiel to Real, or no?

Instead of naming the bak into Real, just name it Xiel.mud (or whatever the primary originally was). Once that's done, you won't have to change anything else. Just open zMUD, double-click on the icon, and it will use the renamed backup file instead of the original primary.

Cripes...Ok, so now at least whenever I click onto the Zmud thing, it doesn't ask me about the license agreement, but now..this whole primary thing just confused me. When I first renamed Xiel to Test and the bak to Real, I tried connecting and nothing but a black thing popped up....however, it said that there might be potential corrupted files. ;-;
Now, I tried renaming Real back to Xiel.mud , but now there's some other Xiel with 192KB there that it just made up or something that I renamed to be Nothing and I tried renaming Real back to Xiel but it doesn't have the same amount of KB's as Test does and it made up another Xiel_bak.mud file. -panic- Whenever I put in Test as the Primary, a blue box thing pops up, and whenever I put Xiel.mud in, just the black box comes up.
I'm so hopeless.
EDIT: Oh, and one last thing, I couldn't find any trace of the original Xiel_bak.ud now anywhere. The one renamed to Real, but then renamed Real to Xiel.mud is...gone. Xiel.mud is there, but it doesn't have the same memeory measurement as Real/original did, but instead something smaller. -flop-

The small file with around 192kb was created whenever you tried connecting while the file was named REAL. Basically, whenever you connect to Lusternia, the game searches for the 'Primary' file in the subfolder you tell it to look at. If the file does not exist, it will automatically create one that is mostly blank but has a few basic settings in it. Whenever you connect, a copy of your current settings is also saved to
The black box might indicate that it is having trouble connecting to Lusternia. Do you have the status window bar visible at the bottom? If so, you can look at the bottom and see the connection status (either a timer showing how long you have been connected, or something like 'Reconnecting in 10 seconds'). To check your connection settings, click on the character in zMUD, then click Edit again, and click on the MUD tab. Make sure it is trying to connect to Lusternia.com (in the Host box) and port 23 (in the Port box). Click on the 'Lookup' button at the bottom to look up the IP address, and try to ping the address to make sure it is entered correctly.

Alrighty, seems everything was completely fried so I just decided to redo everything. I'm sorry for all the trouble, and I really do appreciate everything! You folk are awesome.
