I am planning on getting a PS3 or an XBox360, and I know some of you have the Xbox360, but do any of you have a PS3? And honestly, what do you all think of them? Which would you recommend? I know the PS3 is a lot more costly, and I have seen not much of a difference in graphics between the two at this point. But I am suspecting that PS3 will end up with better graphics. But I would love to hear from you all your opinions on the two consoles.

The games I need (well need isn't the right word, want would be better) to get are available for both, But I must have Assassin's Creed (11/14) and GTA4 (which comes out in March 08).

But yea, any input would help alot. I heard someone say that the PS3's got awful hot. But that it has free online vs having to pay for a yearly Live thingie.

Anyways, any input would be great, thanks!!

edit- god I need to learn to spell opinion correctly, so it doesn't show my poor grammar in the thread title losewings.gif

Xbox 360 has a decent library of games, and though you have to pay for Live right now, it's pretty solid. There are also some great titles coming out, like the ones you mentioned, but also Mass Effect, and some others. I don't have a PS3 right now, but it's probably because there's nothing they've put out that I absolutely want to play.

There are two FF13's on the way for PS3, check wikipedia.

My coworker has a ps3 an xbox360 a pc, and a wii. He plays the xbox 360 more often than any other by far. Mainly because of XBox live.

My brother in law has a PS3, and I have a wii. I bought Eye of Judgment for him, and his ps3, and i love the game, but I doubht it is worth buying the ps3 for.

also, the ps3 is REALLY loud. louder than my computer actually.

PS3 has stronger hardware and the blu ray player, but 360 actually has good games. Graphics<<<<

Wii.

PS3 tends to get lower ratings in gamer mags too compared to the 360.
Damadreas2007-11-08 09:45:11
If you have to choose just one the 360 is undoubtedly your best option in all circumstances, save one. You -really- want a Blu-ray disc player and have an amazing HDTV with HDMI port that supports 1080p. (I exaggerate a tad, but HDTV/HDMI definitely only way to make it worthwhile). Then consider that still yet a lot of the Blu-ray movies that were re-released have horrible compressions and thus look worse then their DVD counterparts, just bleh. (All new releases on Blu-ray seem to have fine compression/pictures)

None of that is very likely a need for the average console consumer at this point. PS3 is a really nice system, I enjoy mine but you just can't hold it up against 360, if PS3 graphics surpass 360's in the longrun it will be by a very marginal amount. I'm not sure how savvy many people are in these forums about their specifics but the difference in the two consoles graphical oomph is miniscule at best. They do things differently from one another, not better then one another necessarily. And 360 kicks PS3 all over the place if you're anything of an audiophile as well.

There's definitely a few games that make the PS3 alluring to me, but if I was forced at gunpoint to smash one.. between my Wii 360 and PS3, my PS3 would be a goner.

Rant aside... I know many of you might be skeptical about this, but it really works, there's the possibility of spending maybe 10-20$ on membership to one of the various offers involved but that's it.

If you just go to this link and register an account (Be sure to do a referral account it's much easier in my opinion.) Just complete an offer and the referrals for your 'gift' and they'll send you an X-box 360elite. Requires a little patience and some work but it works. I got mine from them.

@Damadreas: I signed up, you can thank me later =p

I've heard some good things about these guys, though one would think that there would be alot of fraudulent activity through their offers, so I'm a bit wary and just gonna go for the cash.

(And no, I was never here, go back to your lives little Lusternians)

Wow, you sold your internet spam soul for a xbox....

There is a website like that for ps3 as well. Also vista, leapord, and any other popular computer product.

Thanks guys for the input!!! It will make my choice a bit easier. I was checking out a comparison on the ps3 vs 360 graphics and although 1-2 games were minimally better, the graphics seemed the same.

On a side note, if any of you all saw the South Park (Guitar Hero) episode, that was funny as hell! I was at the store the other day, never played it, but I know how to play several of the songs on a real guitar that the demo had. Heh, I tried it, sucked (didn't know I had to pick the stupid pick bar so nothing worked) and was like wtf... I felt like the dad in South Park. >.>
Daganev2007-11-08 17:38:23
Heh, someone at my office said the same thing.
Unknown2007-11-08 17:59:23
Although I don't own either yet, definitely the 360. The ps3 may have like...two good games?

I've talked to some people who work in the industry, and evidently making games for the ps3 is a -pain-, while the 360 is much easier. So you can expect the trend of good 360 games vs bad ps3 games to continue.

What sort of TV do you have Ildaudid? Using the PS3 with a TV that doesn't support 720p or 1080i is POINTLESS. The 360 is a solid choice, regardless. If you have a decent enough TV, go with the PS3, otherwise, go with the 360.

edit: And Deschain, you have no idea what you're talking about.
Unknown2007-11-08 19:43:20
actualy most of the better hardware the Ps3 has is wasted on useless junk like 2 of its processors are wasted just on an internet interface or some such.
i suggest the 360 as the only real negative i can see to it is a slight chance to get bricked... while the ps3 has graphical lag.
-editted- for random facts sony just released a new PS2...
ps3

Lair
resistance
virtual fighter 3? or 4 dont remember.
NO RUMBLE controllers..
free internet matchups.

xbox
h3 gears oblivion doa4. VIVA PINATA!!!
over heats.
a pain in the A** to interface with your pc
working matchmaking.
Damadreas2007-11-09 03:46:45
Virtua Fighter 5 is out..

Not mentioning Bioshock is pretty much blasphemy and games like Forza motorsport 2 and Project gotham 4 hold the fort for racing fans. Resistance was a damn good game but as far as a killer app it falls short of Bioshock H3 and Gears all 3 by a longshot. Oblivion is available on both systems but runs better on 360. Also, Virtua Fighter 5 has online play for 360 but not PS3

Just buy a cooling thing for your 360. My sister got it for me along with the 360 itself last Christmas, it's never overheated or suffered any sort of issues and I play it all the time.

Mine hasn't overheated either, and I don't even have the cooling thing. The overheating thing apparently isn't as big of a problem as the media would have you think.

One game i'd look forward to on the PS3 is Killzone 2. I thoroughly enjoyed the first one.
