So.
Yesterday morning a eighteen-year-old ordinary Finn from Tuusula in southern Finland, went to his school with a 22. caliber pistol and shot six students, the nurse and the principal of the school. The students in the school were from ages 13 to 20. One of these students was a single mother of 3 and 5 year old children...
This does NOT happen here.
I am not going to even mention how shocked I am...
Where is this world going?

I left him comments on some of his youtube videos a while back, explaining that social Darwinism is for emo douchetards.
Anyway, the media are dubbing him the 'Youtube Killer', and I hear fundie Christian groups are jumping on this 'Evolution = Social Darwinism = Evil' bandwagon.
*facepalm*

Unfortunately it would seem that this does happen there, along with everywhere else.
Unfortunately, there are always scapegoats for this sort of thing: where were the parents, let's blame video games and music, etc.
What it comes down to is that there are some very sick, sick people in the world, and they have the same weapons access that responsible people have.

This happens because:
Killer had access to guns or any other lethal objects
Killer was influenced negatively because of his surroundings (living under abuse, using drugs, etc)
Killer wanted to prove he can do something to either be remembered or show he isn't what they think he/she is.
Seriously though, it pains to see people go into these sort of things, I'm glad my dad sold and threw away his guys after he retire from the military, I shudder to think what might happen if I get to hold on to one.
Oh, remember, with every school massacre, there'll always be a Jack Thompson ready to blame games because he believes games nowadays are murder simulators and stuff like that.

Yeah, because of course movies have nothing to do with it (*cough*Saw, WTF?*cough*).
It's always a tragedy when school shootings happen. Perhaps it's Finland's fault for thinking that its people were above this sort of thing. At any rate, it's still better for the people to have guns than to not - if they didn't, the military might have a bit too much power. Or something sufficiently conspiratorial.

Wow, I am going to the Phillipines, where I can shoot guns, have a negative surrounding, and prove to the fillipino people that I too can do that cool fighting style they have with the 2 sticks.
The rest, well I agree.... Stupid idiots, or bipolar people who don't know how to handle the mania. Look at the Asian kiddo that shot up what was it Va Tech? I know it was the one close to Radford, but damn if I can remember the name.

It is unfortunate for this thing to happen in Finland.
It's unfortunate for this to happen anywhere.
In NYC and all over the US, nooses and swastikas have been appearing on doorways, in bathrooms...
... instead of worrying about how horrible it is, try to worry about how you can prevent it from continuing, and not being a part of it. Make sure you are never one of those shooters, and make sure your friends are never one of those shooters, and make sure they make sure their friends aren't ever one of those shooters, and so on.
With time, this, too, shall pass.

Pfft, so far there haven't been any school shootouts or massacres here in the Philippines yet, though there has been deaths due to frats but I think nothing comparable to a mass murderer.
But I wouldn't think that we'll never have school massacres, as some here says, it will happen when you least expect it and the only way to prevent that from happening is to prevent that in the first place.
EDIT:
And for that cool fighting style with 2 sticks your talking about, Arnis ftw!!!

When thinking about the killer's motives, this is so ironic that I'm beginning to cry. But when has anyone been able to achieve his goals via guns? Except in every second new movie that comes, of course. (Or came in 90's when I still was curious about new movies, they might be better nowadays.)
Talking about this guy, Auvinen, he was being bullied for whole his childhood, he never had friends and his parents were having... you could say, as twisted view of the World as he then came to have. When still remembered, that he was quite intelligent and very proud of himself, in a scary way, it is quite natural that he became full of bitterness and hatred towards humankind. This is a sad example how people who are never loved, act out their loneliness and bitterness. Nothing of course can justify what he did, but if we try to understand the motives of killers, we might be able to prevent these things happening again in the future, I hope.

You know what caused it? Nothing caused it.
People killing people is an inevitability, and if you can't handle it, I suggest you lock yourself in a brightly colored room.
Guns didn't cause it. Guns made it EASIER, but since when have mass-murderers ever needed guns? It's such a ridiculous assumption that guns automatically turn people into psychopaths. In the UK, we had Harold Shipman. He killed 215 people, ALL with a hypodermic needle filled with morphine. What are you going to do, ban morphine?
@Kromsh: blaming movies? No. If you truly believe that, you're no better than Jack Thompson or any of those other idiots.
Killers of this type are created when you have an unfortunate alignment of several factors. The factors are irrelevant or unpreventable.
The way to approach it: there will ALWAYS be people killing people, and we need to just deal with it and accept it instead of flying into a censure-frenzy bitch-fit.

If you meant me, I don't blame guns or anything but those people who bullied the poor little guy and made him bitter against everything. Of course, that's not all but I see it as a main reason that he grew up as a man that would use guns to kill human beings. Certainly, there will always be people killing each other, but it's better to have 1 than 2 killers among 1000 people, for example, don't you agree? That would be my goal, and that would be achieved not by minimizing guns or sensuring movies, but being kind towards other people, especially when they are growing. Happy people won't do the killer trip. Idealistic, perhaps, but makes me feel better. Does it harm anyone?
And yes, there are people with no hope. No matter how we would treat them, they might end up murdering others, but not every one of them is like that.

No, I was talking to Kromsh, and whoever mentioned guns.
Your naivete astounds me, though.
People aren't going to start being nice, they're going to be divisive.
And I sympathize with him, really.

I dunno, as far as I am concerened, if you have a problem with one person.... and you need to use a gun to settle it. Then do it, but know how to do it. Don't go shooting up 12 people or so. I am not promoting killing people, I am just saying that if the only way you have to solve a problem is with a gun (which actually is the last way possibly, and should only be used to defend yourself and what you love) don't kill innocents. This guy is a wuss, if he couldn't just one on one the person/s that he had problems with, even with a stick or a club or something. (Yeah cry if you want, but there is no such thing as a fair fight. You fight to win, but don't use a gun unless you ABSOLUTELY FEEL YOUR LIFE IS IN DANGER).... Instead he chose to do it the wussy way and to kill people who probably were not involved with his initial problem.
@Lysandus, you sure thats the name of it?? I swore it was called something else.

It was intended as a joke. I'd say they're as much of a factor as videogames, though, if you believe that that Jack spews forth and claims as factual.

Yes, I didn't make my point clearly, enough. I just meant that while I got to know this case a little closer as it happened in my home country, I began to see it so that the personal problems while growing up made the guy begin to think the social darwinism way - WHICH made him kill the people.
Or not. Let's just take the fact that he was an asshole, like everyone of us, that things just happen without any reasons and we cannot do anything about it. That's as good view of the world as any, if you like it so. Makes you more relaxed. And I'm going to shut up, now.
