That thing/those things (levelling off the top of my head) have tedium designed into them as a way of limiting the speed people can do them at and the rates at which their - not insubstantial! - rewards can be gained. That doesn't apply here.
Ashteru2007-11-14 13:54:43
why not?
Shiri2007-11-14 14:06:03
...because why does it apply?
"have tedium designed into them as a way of limiting the speed people can do them at and the rates at which their - not insubstantial! - rewards can be gained." It doesn't apply. That's why not.

Gwylifar2007-11-14 19:20:55
The tedium thing is a red herring anyway. What is tedious to one person is relaxing to another. The problem isn't the tedium: it's the imbalance between what's required to do it and what's required to undo it. These don't have to be exactly equal but they probably shouldn't be so completely out of line with one another.

Monk guilds.
Shiri2007-11-15 13:21:30
Sure. Monk guilds it is. Now, back to the quests...
Ashteru2007-11-15 13:30:51
lol, u r funneh.
Guess everyone has to have at least one thing going for them.
Anyway, I still don't see an issue. If the quest annoys you, -don't do it-.

There is also the secondary problem of the imbalance between what is required and what is gained. How does it make sense for 5-6 people to get together for many hours (2-3 days this last time) so that one person can get the honours line? The payoff isn't worth the work, besides the simple RP behind it. It's okay for kephera, +1 dex and +1 cha is handy and all, but not all that great, especially since most people aren't kephera.

The problem is that it takes away what could be a fun part of Lusternia. It would be like if everyone hated combat because it was so tedious. We could just say stop fighting, and move on. On the other hand, we could actually fix the problem so people enjoy the mechanic as it was intended.

I don't even know what you're trying to imply, let alone what you're actually talking about.
The issue is that annoying quests are better off if they're not annoying. I specifically posted this only after completely finishing it so that people wouldn't be able to say to me "don't do it if it's annoying", but that seems to have gone amiss...somehow. So I'll reiterate. I don't have any reason to care whether it's done or not at this point. I've done it. I have both honours line. There isn't a single reward for it that I've noticed other than the honours lines (unless I go keph male, even then it's weighted though) so I have no reason to do it again. So now that that's over with: in the OP is a way to make the quest better! More than one way in fact!
@Derian: I think they get +1 str and +1 int too, but it's weighted. Maybe that changed, but I was sure it was that way when I was an MD.

In the recent revival, I got +1 dex, +1 int and +1 cha.
I don't have any str modifiers, so I'm sure it doesn't raise it instead of not cause of weighted bonus.

That would be the case if all quests were annoying and tedious, but that's not the case.
There was an extremly big quest with an extremly big reward, namely monk guilds. The quest was solved, the reward was handed out. Now all that is left is the extremly big, annoying quest. If you -really- want to, you can repeat it, and get honourslines and some buffs. Or you could ignore it and move on.
Afaik, why should the quest be made easier now that the rewards are handed out?
I could only see changes that make the quest easier the more people work on it, in case it isn't like that. (Which Shiri implied) I don't like any other comments, because simply said, the quest is epic, why should it not be hard to do.

Hard to do != tedious.

How about when Zenobia/Avatar of Illith is raised, they are invulnerable for five IG years?
Unknown2007-11-16 03:13:20
I wouldn't say 5...That's still a long time. Maybe, 1 or 2, I think. I'm up for that.

I would really like for you to design a long and "extremely big" quest (8 of them, to be exact), put untold hours of work into it, and an entire 1500 room area, and THEN say that it's acceptable to have no one do it.
Most areas have 1 single quest. Some (not all though) have quests and counter quests, but they usually involve the same elements.
I think 1 quest per area is a good rule of thumb. That means 8 areas since there are 8 (MASSIVE) quests. In case you aren't clear about how long it takes to build an area... Do you recall the last area released before the Kiakodan Reserve? I believe it was Hifarae. That was before Lisaera came back. Half a year for a single area? Now, we know it didn't take 4 years for the undervault, but all things held equal, it should have. Do you see where I'm trying to go with this?

I think they should be killable, it should just be a job of difficulty and persistence. I'm thinking something like:
Give each queen A LOT more HP (don't make 'em harder, just give them more HP). Then, when they are attacked make sure there's always X kephera warriors to help them. Then, periodically through the fight (which should last longer than a minute. Again, don't make them harder, just last longer) have 'waves' of kephera warriors come. WoW makes epic battles interesting, IMO, because the waves that they throw at you. We could employ that same tactic here.

I've been doing the Cthologg-weakening quest for the past 14 hours of my life.
Spirits repop once every hour. It takes at least ten spirits to get an item to purify an orb. You need to do this six times total. Sometimes, though, it's more than ten. Around 2.5 repops, 6 times.. that's 15 hours for this quest.

Adding to what I said about the 5 button-pushers for the web and the 8 zenobia-feeders for the potion, everyone who attacks Cthoglogg/Zenobia should probably get the honours line for killing them. It makes it completely impractical and down to chance as to who gets the honours line without that.

Do I have to shed a tear whenever I kill a beautifully described Astral-creature and get it's desc exchanged with the blahblah lies dead here line? Do I have to sniffle whenever I decide to not use some skills because they are useless? Do I have to cry whenever I walk past an area and not do the quest?
Is it my duty to do every single quest in the game?
