So recently I thought 'Hmm...the Japanase people are really like...serene and peaceful' (or maybe at least in the movies but meh...). So then I applied this to Lusty and thought it'd be cool if we could make origami and it'd increase mana regen ratess while meditating. But then I expanded on that idea and thought 'What if we had an animal origami thingy, for each stat and the regen rates. So it might look something like this:
AB ARTS ORIGAMI:
Using 3 paper commodities, you can create origami. There are five animals you can make and holding one lets you regenerate the thing (yeah, the admins would have a better word for it) it's associated with.
The five animals and their effects are:
Turtle: health
Owl: mana
Oxen: endurance
Swan: willpower
Peacock: ego

I like the concept, but I'm not at all sure about the regens.
The questions to deal with are 1) is there enough unique utility to be gained from the skillset that it would be a viable trade (read: on par with other trades, which have differing levels of viability) and 2) would adding this trade and those abilities improve the game sufficiently and for enough people to make it worth coding it?
I love the fact that there are magic runes, magic hex sigils, magic paintings, magic cards (tarot) and other such magical structures. It might sound odd, but all of those kinds of trappings add a fun flavor to the game for me and mystic paperfolding works well with all of that.
But, those first two questions need looked at.

Maybe also they should increase how much of each stat or whatever it's called when you sip from a vial...maybe by 50%? E.g Without peacock bromide gives me 300 ego, with peacock it gives me 450

And maybe adding onto that idea make the process of making them like forging...like it takes half a minute to make one. Or also make them cost tints as well. So Turtle might be like...3 paper, 1 blue and 1 green tint.

Don't think it would work as a standalone tradeskill skillset. Possibly as a couple skills in bookbinding to punch up that skillset...
(The other alternative would be a secondary skillset based on origami but I think that may be too whimsical.)

Or, you can craft...I forget what they are called at the moment, but strips of paper that act like sigils, but last only about a day or so. Seals? Something like that. Just good for quickly sealing a room off without near permenant sigils.

Wow, yeah. Add it to bookbinding. I don't know about specialization, though. Unless we came up with a large enough number of unique (or mostly unique) benefits. But then, it sounds like the first few ranks would need shuffling. Skills gained that relate to both scholarly writing/bookbinding as well as mystic paperfolding crafts. Then much or most of the current low rank abilities would get squeezed up along with the bulk of higher rank abilities into the current bookbinding 'spec'.

But yea, what if there were bookbinding seals corresponding with the 9 seals? Each can give a small effect...like, the bookbinding seal of nature lets you walk 1 extra room before the hasty message in natural environments. Seal of death gives the small chance of somebody attacking you getting struck with one affliction, etc. Each will require special paper that only bookbinders can make (the same paper used for origami?), and then has to be written on with magic ink. The skills to make these mini-seals would come in triplets...so one triplet early on for 3 seals, each not doing anything really useful, 3 with medium effects, and 3 with somewhat-potent effects towards trans. And they would be more for flair than for actual help in stuff...

Nearly every manga/anime will have someone who uses a variation of seals/jufus/tailsmans.
Alexander Anderson (Hellsing) using pages from a Bible to create barriers.
World of Naruto has exploding tags.
Shaman King has a variety.
There's just whole slews of variations. Grab and run with it.

Hmm...well how about making it a tertiary(sp) skillset for monks. Hey, they already do martial arts (Oriental coughcough) so why not go all the way with letting 'em make Origami?

Bookbinding with seals also harkens nicely back to the Lovecraft inspirations for Kethuru. Lots of seals there, and signs of power, and of course books.
My favorite ever idea for an adaptation of that (apropos to nothing) is for a Victorian Fantasy game (think Barsoom) with a Cthulhu element. Remember how Percival Lowell saw "canali" on Mars (channels, but everyone transliterated it as "canals") and everyone was sure that meant intelligent life, and then it all turned out to be Lowell squinting too hard in his telescope?
What if Lowell really had seen canals, and they really were artificially built, but not as some kind of transportation or water distribution system; instead, the ancient Martians scribed onto the entire surface of Mars a planet-wide Elder Sign that kept the Great Old Ones stuck out in the gas giants part of the solar system, unable to penetrate to the tasty worlds in the center of the solar system. The only rocky world they were able to get to... well, you don't want to know about that one. Nowadays we call it the asteroid belt.
But in the days since Lowell's time, someone or something has erased the "canali" somehow. We need to get to Mars, figure out what happened, and how to reverse it, before the Great Old Ones notice. Cool idea for a campaign, huh?
