Last I was aware, aggressive actions made Idras masks drop. But there was a delay, which helped create a certain level of confusion. But then, it's been a long time since I played Imperian.
Ceren2007-12-02 03:45:51
If it didn't drop on aggressive action, someone could just attack you with psionics (which are anonymous) without you being able to fight back until you guessed who they were.

Or you could simply attack 'figure' or 'aslaran' or whatever shows after masked in the descriptor
Eldanien2007-12-02 03:47:42
Sort of the point of the Idras masks and Phantom mask artifacts.

I don't think it works like this. What if there was more than one masked aslaran in the room?
Dysolis2007-12-02 04:32:29
yeah, even if it didn't have combat potential use I would still buy it at a low cost. Especially showing that your race enters this room is unique.
Daganev2007-12-02 05:15:55
two things I don't like about hte mask.
1. It doesn't change your description. (It would be nice if it removed your description and changed it to something masked and generic.)
2. It doesn't conceal your weapons.
3. It would be nice if it fell off -after- you attacked, instead of before.

Not sure what you guys are on about... Idrasi masks drop on offensive actions. Why people like them so much is obfuscation which allows them to mask up and use a command to have any scry on them hit a random target logged into the mud and idrasi masks delay guard reaction times, IE they can wolf ride into a city and try to hostage/kill a target. Guard reactions are slowed by about 1-2s IIRC so they can slip by if the mask is up.
Dysolis2007-12-03 00:31:23
hm nice. If the mask is on here do guards detect it?
Ashai2007-12-03 01:06:16
ask the frost hag that told me to behave

Oh, that would be really nice too.
I'd really like to wear my mask, walk into an enemy territory and talk to people as if I was one of them.
The random scry thing is great too!
Revan2007-12-03 02:22:01
THAT would be worth 800cr... not what we currently have

It's just a regular skill over in Imperian.
edit: Unless you were refering to the turning into an enemy thing.

Oh! also, does the mask hide your identity from MindScan or scent or stuff like that? There really needs to be ways to conceal your identity from all those abilities, even if they're all individual artifacts.
I disagree. That's basically like something from Achaea. I forget what it's called, but it makes you undetectable (especially if you're sitting in a bed). VERY frustrating artifact. I would hate to see it in Lusternia, especially since I could easily name at least five people who would jump to buy one and abuse it to hell.
QUOTE(Krellan @ Dec 1 2007, 07:32 PM) 461563
It was meant to be a non combat and just a roleplay artifact anyways. Maybe the price should just get lowered and we should leave it how it is?
This roleplay artifact is at a ridiculous price. 800cr to sit around as a masked human? If it's going to be kept this way, it should be lowered to 200-350cr. My RoA is more useful than that.

Regarding number 2 -- how is a mask going to conceal your weapons? I realize this is a game, but a mask covering that stuff up just makes very little sense to me.
I agree to the other two. Your desc getting changed would be neat.

I don't think I understood this. If you scry someone with the mask, it randomly attacks someone logged into the MUD?

As awesome as that would be, it would be bought and abused to hell by some select players in this game (which is unfortunate, because that would be immensely entertaining roleplay).
Unknown2007-12-03 04:42:08
Nah, he means the scry will look at someone else instead of the person wearing the mask, I believe.
Unknown2007-12-03 04:56:11
No.
Mask just hides your identity on look, who, and any loyals you may have. Drops on aggressive actions, but not on movement. Delays guard reactions by a few seconds.
Obfuscate, a completely different skill, makes scries hit random people logged in at that time. So if the pred has mask AND obfuscate on, you basically can't locate them.

Right, some of these ideas are approaching Veil potency. That was actually an argument over in Imperian for a while, regarding that set of abilities compared to a 2000cr artifact. It's been said time and again that we won't be getting the Veil, and I can see the logic in that.
That said, it wouldn't hurt to have certain artifacts that work towards stealth. We have the gem and cloak already. We shouldn't go overboard or we start approaching Veil problems again. But in this case, for 800cr, I do think it should hide more details.
As for how a mask can hide weapons... if an Igasho or Faeling wears a mask, are you not going to be able to tell what race they are? If a creature with blue skin or scales, fins and gills is wearing a mask, how do you not know what race that person is? Chalk it up to artifact potency and call it a day.
50-200cr is a 'roleplay tool'. 800cr should have some strong utility.

Or take a distinct individual with blatant body characteristics (say, a furrikin that sheds more so than most)-- you would be able to tell who they are, even while wearing a mask. Thus, it must somehow hide the entire body, even the hands. Why not weapons as well?
Unknown2007-12-03 05:11:13
Yeah, it can be a mask like the green one Jim Carrey wears.
Dysolis2007-12-03 05:21:49
haha.
