What's something that's funny that you've done/about you that you tend to forget or not really tell anyone? I was reminded of a harness I had to wear as an infant and thought it was kind of silly and wanted to see what other fun things people had.
Here's the harness I had to wear as a baby (a pavlik harness) because my hip joint wasn't fully formed or something when I was born.

Let's see... When I was a kid, I wore braces for three solid years and then a retainer for another two and a half. It was the kind you keep in your mouth all day and night, only to take out to clean and when you're eating.
If I had a dollar for everytime I had to run back to the cafeteria at school cause I'd left it on my lunch tray!

ME TOO. One of those wrist leashes? My brother was a leash child for much longer than I was though.
I also wore braces for four years, had something called a bionator (for overbites, holds your bottom teeth in front of your top), and rubber bands that went across my mouth (which, naturally, I never wore).
I also had to go to eye therapy for 2 years every week for focusing problems.
All of my repressed memories are coming out!

My braces had rubberbands too! And sometimes they'd pop free and embarrassing things would happen!
Oh... and I still have scars on the insides of my cheeks where the little metal hooks for the rubberbands would catch on them and tear out little grooves.

I'm still wearing retainers. I had braces, got those really crummy clear plastic retainers, after a few years, they got so disgusting, so I stopped wearing them and my teeth started moving again. Then I got new retainers keeping them in their somewhat crooked positions so they don't get worse .

I can move my right eyebrow independently of my left, but not vice-versa

As a kid, I once spent a night in my grandma's car because I couldn't register that her and my parents banging on the windows weren't telling me to 'Pretend you're a racecar driver', but instead 'OPEN THE DOOR BEFORE WE KILL YOU'.
Whenever I stayed at my aunt and cousin's (which happened a lot, since my parents were usually dumping me off somewhere away from home before they went to work) place in the trailer park, I was deathly afraid of these little tiny toy dogs. Not literally toy dogs, but these tiny things with high-pitched barks. They jumped on me and scared the living hell out of me.
And, on the subject of being spooked, just last summer I went down to my father's house in Oregon. We were playing around by the river, I was sitting on some rocks, water was up to my waist. A prawn skittered across my hand, I squeaked and fell into the river.
...I still hate prawns, lobsters, crabs etc. so much since then.

Yeah I stopped wearing my retainer about a month after I got it. I do, however, have a built in bottom retainer which is basically a wire cemented on to my bottom teeth on the inside. I've had it for...5 years now, and I think if I had it removed it would be extremely weird having that extra tongue space.

I started 'reading' when I was 3 years old, only I wasn't really reading, I had just memorized the words of several books - as I had heard them so many times. Apparently I fooled a heck of a lot of people.

I'm deathly afraid of jacuzzi spas. I think that qualifies as little known, even to my close friends.
Shishi2007-12-03 15:11:54
I couldn't talk until really late because my ears were so plugged I couldn't hear anything. I had to get something in my ears to clean them out, and then had to go to speach therapy until 2nd grade.

My parents told me that when I was young I used to be in the back of the car, start talking to them, fall asleep in mid sentence, and wake up about and hour later and continue the sentence.
Also, until about 5th grade my hands would move so that if I moved one of them the other one mimicked the movement. Now it's just down to odd twitching from the other hand. Oh, and add this to the general awkwardness of being left handed.
And Veo, I kept reading your harness as a Paavik harness

I can do that too! Well, I can sort of twitch my left eyebrow upwards a little, but it's not the same. I have a friend who can really, really arch his eyebrow, though. It's kinda freaky.
But other "interesting" things about me...
I hate wearing sweaters. Hate hate hate. Since I was around eleven, I have not worn a sweater unless it was really freezing cold. As in 2°C and below cold. I would wear a jacket when it was very cold, but I absolutely hated wearing a sweater. When I went to secondary school, my parents didn't bother buying me another sweater after I got too big for my first one, because I had just never ever worn it. I'm not even sure why I hated wearing them so much, because I haven't had the experience for so long. I think it was just the feeling of wearing a layer of very thick, not very loose fabric that went right down to my wrists. And I was always very good at retaining heat, so it just made me too hot.
Yup. "Interesting".

Yay left-eyebrow people!
I hate wearing shoes and frequently go barefoot, much to the chagrin of my parents. I once went to class (last year, as a college sophomore) barefoot... How I managed that I'll never figure out since my bike doesn't have nice cushy pedals but big evil metal teethy ones (which incidentally offer excellent grip on bare flesh). Jackets and formalwear tend to suck because they make me overheat. My surface temperature as measured with an infrared temperature probe at my solar plexus is something like 95 degreed Farenheit (resting internal body temperature for a normal, healthy human being is 98.6, so a surface temp of 95 is really high). I also found out that my favorite sweat pants are actually women's pants. I guess I'm thin enough to where that doesn't really matter... And on the topic of motile facial elements, I can wiggle my ears independantly of each other. I can also wiggle my nose like a rabbit.

This one time, in band camp, I had to play Lusternia.
