how exactly do I gain xp?

There are several actions that counts as making your character active such as composing songs, jamming and maybe shows. Before I heard people just whore picturing random people and they get 3 xp a week but that has changed since the update.

For experience with low skills: Take pictures of people on the paparazzi list, do shows, jam, and complete songs. The better the song, the more exp you get. You always get one exp. 4 or so jams a week seems to pretty much assure that you get 2. 3 jams is right on the border, sometimes you'll get 1 and sometimes two. 3 jams plus a celebrity picture or two is 2. 7 jams a week plus a picture or two is 3. Seems like 5 or so shows a week plus the occasional picture is also 3, but I've yet to actually accomplish that, it's just from observing others.
