Hoping for a bit more of the 'why'. Isn't flying faster? Etc. etc.
Flying too much can mess up your health. Plus, you can only take what you can carry on a plane, so if you have lots of equipment, you can't bring it with. Also, tour busses are cool cause they can't be robbed.
But yeah, they are slow, and if you get one, be sure to pick up a few repair kits and spare tires or breakdowns will really get you.

Flying still takes an awfully long time, it's VERY expensive (especially first class / supersonic), has annoying mood/health hits, and you can't leave your instrument on the airplane. Plus, with the bus, you can order all your bandmates to 'go with the bus' and you never have to worry about making them come along with you ever again! As long as they don't wander off to some other city for some reason.
And you can't use your phone in the plane.
I plan to avoid planes whenever I can, now-- tourbus all the way!

So... If I've started planning my tour, and we've got flights to/from every show thus far, do you all recommend I tell my bandmates to stop buying plane tickets, and then I'll buy the tourbus when we're in the city after the latest flight we've booked? Does that make sense?

Sure does!
That's pretty much what I did. In a way.

Gotta rough estimate on how much time a tour bus adds to travel?
Thanks much!

Most of my trips so far are 3-9 hours, but I've just been driving around the Americas. It's about 9 hours from Toronto to Nashville, for example (plus potential breakdown, which can add a couple hours).
Noola2008-04-08 23:46:26
The flash Popo map shows all the cities and if you click on each city, it'll tell you how long it is (by road) to get to each connected city. Just to be safe, you might mentally add a couple of hours in case of break down. Here's the link: Map

I normally just use the subway map on the wiki, but this sounds interesting, but I have an issue. For some reason, whenever I click on links that lead into things into Popomundo.com, Popo gives me the 'you've been logged off' screen or tells me to log-in, even if I am logged in. I can't *ever* get into any of the links. Anyone else had this problem?

You see how Noola's URL has www120.popo? Well, mine was www121.popo before I clicked her link. Maybe it identifies which server you're on by the number, and if you try to access a different server, it can't find you and thinks you've logged off? So, what you can do (and this works for me), is replace whatever the number is in the link you're trying to access with the number that you're logged in with.
Noola2008-04-10 16:02:57
Well, I'll tell you where to find the map so you don't have to change servers by clicking on links too:
Just click on the Community link at the top, then the Travellers Guide link on the right and then the Popomundo Map (Flash) link on the right.

Popo Rant!!!!
I'm not sure what to do about the studeo I work for.
The president of the company that owns it hasn't logged in in a week and the locale only has a little over $3,000 worth of cash now. It's enough to handle the small, incidental expenses such as what we have to pay when a band books a recording session (most of the time, we only get bands who're signed booking which means we don't make anything off it) and if I have to order CDs. Which is annoying because said missing president requires me to order the CDs from the factory she owns in Toronto even though it takes 3 days for them to arrive, instead of a local one, so I almost always either wind up ordering way too few cause I've misjudged how popular the single is and we sell out and then I don't have more for three days or I order way too many and they sit there.
She hasn't answered me about dropping the non-genre compliant bands now that I've managed to get several actual Rock bands signed. Which sucks cause I just know that having all these non-Rock bands is contributing to our genre ranking being so low, and that's part of the reason I have such a hard time convincing anyone but noobs to sign with the studeo, which also keeps our genre ranking low cause the more famous bands of the correct genre you have signed the better.
But none of it matters if the studeo runs out of money! I've done my best to stem the money hemmroage (ugh, I can tell that's misspelled! ) and increase profit opportunities. I've gotten the quality up to revolutionary too. But we're not going to have enough to pay the water and electric bills. Much less this upcoming week's salaries. And other locales owned by this company are in trouble too, the HQ in NY is nearly bankrupt.
I mean, she could log in at any moment and help fix things. Or she could never log in again. I'm not mad at her really, cause I know that stuff comes up and pulls one away from online things. No, what I'm mad at is that I can see the money held by the company but I can't move any of it to my studeo.
I like running the studeo. I like interacting with the employees and artists signed. I like running things and setting prices and salaries and so on. I like being in charge. But I don't like not being able to access the funds I need because they really belong to someone else.
What I need to do is to own my own company. The only problem is that I don't have enough money to feel comfortable starting one. I've noticed, not just with my own experience, but reading things in the Popo forums, that it's really hard to make profits with locales - especially when they're new/starting out like the studeo I'm at now is. So I'd want to have a good deal of money on hand to cover salaries and expenses until my place got off the ground or I'd just have the same problem I have now except I wouldn't even be able to look at the money I can't spend - there just wouldn't be any.
Not that I'd start out with something as hard as a studeo... prolly a jam place. From what I've read, they're the easies to start out with.
Really though, I'm worried about the employees. Part of me wants to contact them all and warn them about the money problem because I don't want them to not get paid if the company president doesn't come back in time, but the other part of me doesn't want to freak them out and have them quit to find new jobs and then the company president comes back and it was a false alarm.
So, there's my Popo rant. Every other thing is going so awesome in the game though. Tickets for the shows I've booked so far are selling like hotcakes!

Well, I'm stuck in tororonto with no money, and trying to make my mom happy, and am losing health and mood and have no idea why.
Plus, I have no reason to play for two weeks untill I have enough cash to buy a book and rent an appartment, and go back home. *phoowey*
Oh, and my band mates are making out in an apartment so I can't actually interact with them to perform better.

You can set your career mission to busk or "focus on work" to earn money per update, which sometimes newbie do to get quick cash.
Your health and mood goes down depending on various factors. Mood goes down if you do any career mission besides compose music and talk to the media, health goes down if you set your spare time mission to party all night, among other things. Check the help files about the priorities to find out what they do.
Edit: Both busking and improving skills will lower your mood, and since you're doing both, it'll lower it quite a bit.
Sarrasri2008-04-11 18:46:43
Go to the friendly, local university and find people who are teaching. It's great for getting skills while you're not performing in a lot of places yet.

Stop busking. You're lowering your health and mood by doing so. Also, skilling lowers mood, so you're attacking your mood two ways. Change your career priority to compose music for a bit, and change your spare time to rest.
If you need money, focus on work will get you a little bit, but I think there's still a mood drop with it, just not as bad as busking.
Oh, and if you want to return home, you can hitchhike for fee. Just set your spare time priority to hitchhike and stand at the travel route that leads to where you want to go. In your case, you'll want to stand at the Toronto-Nahsville route and then when you get to Nashville, stand at the Nashville-LA one.
Resting will increase your health and composing music will keep your mood from dropping further. Oh, and rest in a park, it's more effective than trying to rest anywhere else besides your house.
Don't worry about your mom tasks all at once, there's no time limit on completeing them.
Unknown2008-04-11 19:04:43
You could probably stay at my place in toronto. I don't lock it because I don't have anything to steal heh. Would that be better than resting in the park?

I'm not 100% on this, but I think if you don't have an apartment in a town, and your artist has their hotel priority set, you automatically stay in a hotel even if you're physically standing in an apartment at the sleep update.
But I could be totally wrong so don't take my word for it. Someone else prolly knows for sure.
