I still haven't figured out how often the updates are.

Once every friday, afaik. You can just work somewhere and never think about it again, you'll get money from that anyway. If you concentrate on work, you'll just get more.
So I'll just live my promiscuous little life full of coolness without ever really working.

No... there are like updates at least twice (maybe more... I've only had my character for 19 hours and there've been two updates during that time for sure) for some things. Like busking. And for the first 14 days you get 'newbie' experience points every udate. After those 14 days, you just get regular experience points once a week - but I think the daily updates are still the same for busking and diary entries and so on. The friday thing is just for your job's weekly salary.

edit: I've been scouring the forums and help files and even wiki's trying to find out exactly how many updates there are per day. It seems I've learned just about everything BUT that! Not really, of course, but it sure seems that way. This is a hella complicated game.

Well I've had a char for 6 hours and there's been no update, if that helps.

Yeah, I'm thinking it must be every twelve hours. I just wish I knew when those two updates happened, exactly. Both times, I didn't discover them till I'd logged back in.

Why do I need to know this? Well... because it bugs me to not know.

Ah! So... a little off exactly 12 hours... but close enough. What timezone is that? And where did you toggle the option to show times in your diary? (I assume that's where that's from?) Mine just shows the day, not the time.

edit: Ah! I'm dumb! There's a little button what says "Complete" that could have saved me so much effort today!

If you don't wanna start one from scratch, you can check the want ads of the 'It's Pop!' news letter, under the classifides there's a link that says "Artists looking for new members" then you just click on the band names and if one seems likely you click on the 'Ask to Join Artist' link.

If you do want to start from scratch, then you just go to your Career link at the top and follow the prompts.
