The best way is to get VIP (it costs like $9) and then start writing blogs including subtle hints about things you want to learn and goals you have for your life if only you had more money. Sound plucky and determined and slightly needy and folks will offer you books and great jobs and money. That's what I've done and it's worked out nicely for me. I believe it's Reiha's recipe for success too.

Course you can also just luck into it. I think that's how Ildaudid found his! laugh.gif

I lucked into my first one, then saw my second one, and was like damn, I need her. So well the first one left me (he never gave me money) but my second one offers me money all the time and I tell her no, I don't want it. She said she will just send it if she sees me broke and strugglin... so that works smile.gif

I lucked into a prison ring, I am working to learn B. Crime, then Chemistry, Arson, Smuggling, Embezzlement (which I already have 10* in -inside joke-) and then the one I truly want!!! Escape from prison!!!

Then I can work on my Botany, Pharmecology, Adv Pharm, B. Med, Advance Med... to get the drug ring running. I think Lyco should work on all those skills while I obtain the others... since then he can teach me his and I can teach him mine by then, same with Count Ashteru...

It is just a thought but we need our own Triads in Popotown! Then we open legit buisness across the world, having only our head trustworthy people running them (no criminals who can embezzle) and we oversee a vast empire of drugs for the rock bands. We will be what the Dead was for drugs from the 60's-90's (The were like the biggest dealers ever.... all drugs came in on dead head caravans... and who do you think ran that parade >.>) Yarr!! piratecapt.gif

This wasn't good at all for me.

Instead, I dove into the forums, and started making little comments here and there. Eventually, I made a post about how much my bosses sucked (none of them would ever send me a message back, one of them wouldn't even pay me), and asked if anyone might find it in their hearts to help me find a position where I could actually be "more than a warm body".

I got a few messages in response saying that they had seen me around the forums, and asked if I was interested in being a CEO. They don't really give me things-- I got my money by reading the London University thread and figuring out which people were paying for teaching, but a combination of the two (and a lot of forum reading) seems to be pretty darned helpful.

Of course, if you've got a female character, it does appear to be a heck of a lot easier.

I got a few connections here and there, thanks to my IG lover wink.gif

Experience Points Tweaks
We've made some changes to how the experience points are valued in the game. Read More »

You now get more potential experience points from jamming, recording tracks and shooting videos.

You also get experience points from writing songs from now on. The better the song turns out the higher the chance of earning experience points from it. Theoretically, although highly unlikely, one shockingly good song could earn you three whole experience points. Likewise if the song sucks you won't get any potential experience from it at all.

In addition to these music related tweaks photography won't get you any potential experience points anymore unless the person photographed is on the paparazzi list.
Noola2008-01-03 17:16:33
Crap. There goes the experience I was gonna get for this week! laugh.gif

I only got one shot of someone from the paparazzi list out of the 11 I've taken.

Because taking away options is great news... or not.

I don't mind adding more, but there's no reason to take away the old in this case.

The option isn't taken away. It's just more challenging. smile.gif

Besides, why should people get experience from taking pictures of random nobodies?

Why shouldn't people get experience from doing their other job (such as being a CEO and keeping a business running-- that's a heck of a lot more 'challenging' than a jam session), or speaking with people and forming relationships ('real' experiences), and so on? For some reason, you don't... so photographing people was pretty much the leveler for them overlooking a number of Real Experiences which should give the possibility.

And, yes, the option is taken away. Take a look at the Paparazzi list.

Cause I don't have time to waste on music right now. laugh.gif I need to get my basic econ skilled up. Ah well. I'll just have to get by without exp points for a few weeks.
Lysandus2008-01-03 18:02:18
Ugh, just when I bought a camera and took pictures of 12 strangers, they change it!
Reiha2008-01-03 18:02:19
So, I'll get like what, 1 exp point max per week? My songs suck, it's going to take a while to master basic composing and lyrics, and I can jam a lot, but I doubt it will bring it up really high... dry.gif

They should have kept the photo thing for folks who want to work on their business or aren't good enough yet to make songs, record or shoot videos. sad.gif
Shayle2008-01-03 18:06:56
I still like the change. But I'm in it for the music! smile.gif
Noola2008-01-03 18:14:53
I wouldn't mind the change if they reduced the effect taking pictures had so you still had to do some music dabbling to make up the difference to get a full amount for the week. But to take them away entirely (Which is what they've done. In the 28 days I've been playing, I've run into exactly 2 people on the list and only successfully taken a picture of 1 of them. Nearly all those people have stealthy up so you don't even know what town they're in, much less where in that town they are.) just means that I'll never earn the full exp. losewings.gif

Ah well. Like I said, I'll just get by without any attribute growth for a while. Though it means my musical career will have to wait even longer than it would've - which means that it'll be even longer before I can start getting good exp. Catch-22!! laugh.gif
Ildaudid2008-01-03 18:26:15
concerts and tours, along with improving skills and learning should help. I think I waas told the more active you are the more pts up to 3 you will get, so dont worry, snapping pics may not work but there are other ways (I think)
Unknown2008-01-03 18:34:15
Waah! I'm pretty much in the same boat as Noola and others for this one. Still in the preparation phase of my artist's career. Oh well, I guess it's time to jam other people's songs from now on then. Hmm it'd be nice if Popomundo had an "Ideas" forum or some more direct way of communicating with the developers!

Edit: Nevermind, they do have a 'Game Development' forum biggrin.gif

I know, but I don't want to seriously launch my career until I have the skills and a good selection of fully jammed songs both original and borrowed and a higher set of attributes. I wanna get off to a good start, and I wanna do it after I've cemented my CEO position. I promised I'd get my econ skilled up which is why my boss went ahead and gave me the maximum raise.

Anyone figured out what food and water does?

The only things I know about food are: If you eat 'fancy meals' and oysters then your mood will go up a bit, but then fall back down about an hour later. Folks recommend them if you need a quick mood boost for a show - cause having a good mood makes your show better. If you eat chocolate, you get a mood boost of between 1 and 5% that doesn't go back down (depending, of course, on your prioirites and so on) but you take a health hit of the same amount about a half an hour later. Because health is so much easier to maintain than mood, I generally use chocolate as a cheaper than shopping method of mood control.

If there's other purposes to food and drink, I haven't learned them yet, so if you find out more, share! smile.gif
