Speaking of that, how does getting a record producer help? I know some people who do this for others, but do they just have to be in the same local for their skill in record production to kick in or something? Does anyone know how this works exactly. Cuz I really don't wanna have to skill up B. Record Production and stuff just to get a decent recording of a track.

Actually, it's explained on the forums. If you keep your relationship up through only the phone, then when you finally do interact physically, it will drop your relationship back down to around 70%. It's just a bug/issue with the relationship system, which apparently they are working on completely revamping.

I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that it uses the highest Record Production skill from people at the locale at the time. I can't find it again, though.
