I assume you've done algebra before?
If V = S + Direction and S = A, then V = A + Direction.
Therefore, I am correct.

Motorcycles have a bigger profile than 2x4s. Therefore, you are not.

You, Sir, really need to get over yourself. Things a lot bigger than a 2x4 can bust through things. For instance, I bet a train would destroy a cow. That's sure as hell bigger than a 2x4.
Anyway, I'm done responding, cause you have a serious issue with your ego, and I'm bored with it. My statement was correct in the situation I made it, and that's all that matters. A motorcycle is fully capable of tearing through a cow.
Motorcycle tires range from 2-5 inches wide. The fronts of many motorcycles are also pointed in one fashion or another.
So, yes, the front-most portion of the motorcycle is going to be narrower than 4 inches, and so you just proved for me that a motorcycle of the right design would tear through a cow. Thank you. And since i'm not responding to this again, whether or not you open your mouth doesn't change the fact that I win and you lose, because I say so.

It doesn't even need to be sharp, you can be impaled by a blunt object if you/it going fast enough.
Xavius2007-12-13 01:36:55
First you confused force with pressure. (EDIT: And you still are, judging by the train analogy.) Then you confused speed, velocity, and acceleration. Now you've failed to process the difference between a linear inch and a square inch.
You, my friend, may just be beyond hope.

All right, we're all losing sight of the big picture, here. In our zeal to be correct about Newtonian physics, let's not forget that the reason we're all here is to figure out if someone can cut a cow in half with a motorcycle.
Figure A
Now, my contention is that a motorcycle is too blunt and irregularly shaped to reach sufficient speed to cut clean through a cow and come out the other side, thus leaving the cow in two (or more) pieces.
Figure B
I believe a motorcycle can damage a cow, kill a cow, crush a cow, and mess a cow up in all kinds of ways, but actually pass -through- a cow? This is a question that needs a lot of pondering.
Figure C
But if we keep our wits about us and offer argumentation built around what is necessary for a blunt, irregular object to pass through a fairly solid body, I'm sure we'll get our answers in the end.

I can’t decide if it is possible or not, it would depend on the profile of the bike and the speed at which it is going. The bike would have to have enough kinetic energy so that when it hits the side of the cow it would cause the cow to rupture, this is going to depend on the elasticity of the cows flesh, the size of the impact zone and the time period of the collision. If the speed is high enough then the force applied by the front of the bike is over a sufficiently short time. It would initially cause a deformation in the flesh leading rapidly to a rupture of the cow and the high pressures generated in the impact zone would cause internal organs to explode. My only doubt would be the spinal cord, and rib cage, although hitting the cow in the area just behind the last ribs might give you a better chance. If the speed isn't high enough to cause a rupture then a 400kg cow takes a lot of moving...
...so good luck with testing that.

Seems like we should be able to do this in AutoCAD or something.

I have no idea about any of this, but I just want to stay that this entire thread is , especially post 45.

I would think if you're going fast enough to rupture the cow, some bone isn't going to stand in the way if the bike is tall enough. Since the rider was apparently flung, I wonder what happened to the bike, as in did it just keep going straight through, or did it lift up a bit (which could then break the spine even if the bike itself wasn't tall enough). It's not as though the cow's bones are made of steel (bionic cow?)
Now what would REALLY be crazy is if the guy had split the other cow in half when he hit it .

Now, I have this Matrix/Ghost Riderish image of some guy in shades and a leather jacket riding into this cow in slow motion (with heavy techno music in the background) and splitting it in half. The parts go flying and proceed to split two other cows in half. The rider spins his motorcycle perpendicular to the road, stops, and lowers his shades.
"Guess I'd better learn to steer," he mutters, "before I moooooove on."

I curd see the sense in being herded out of steer myself. I don't get calf these puns!
EDIT: Oh! oh! It's udderly ridiculous! This thread is good for moooooot!

I tried to ignore it, but I can't any more since this thing keeps getting bumped. Might someone please fix the title of this thread? Either "Can SAW's Friend Bisect A Cow," or "Could SAW's Friend Have Bisected A Cow"? Thanks.
