Power defenses rant.
I was thinking of this earlier, and I agree wholeheartedly.
Never will someone be putting up those kinds of defenses in combat... so what's the point of the powercost, other than to... make people use more power? It doesn't really follow. At this point, orgs have so much power they're not going to run out through player usage. Players might run out of power, but players running out of power was supposed to be a combat mechanic, I thought?

I don't think there has to be a point besides making people use power, but, yes, as I said, it makes little-to-no-difference since the admin don't seem to care much about power levels in organizations. I do not think that VAs are the solution the the power issue because I believe orgs will still keep stockpiling power now that we're locked into this mentality. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything that would actually help. We're locked into the position of the current power regulations in each organization. Simply decreasing power generation won't help, it would just hurt those who use a lot of power (ie, Luxi). They can't really increase the costs for player powers, and only in the very, very long run are constructs likely to do anything significant.

Losing defs when I log out doesn't annoy me nearly as much as losing them when I lose a spar. It really discourages practicing combat.
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes.
The loss of defenses also makes it harder to obey the afk rule. I don't really understand what it does accomplish other than perhaps some technical implementation detail.

I think part of the power defenses thing is so that rogues don't use those skills all willy-nilly.
I just like saying willy-nilly.
