Can anyone help me pick a Magnagorian guild? Ur'Guard, unless the worst comes to worst, are out of the question. And same with the future monks. But Cacophony, Nihilists and Geomancers are still on the list. P.S I'm a Viscanti.

Thanks for any help.

What sort of character do you have? What's his personality? What do you want to do with him/accomplish with/for him?
Unknown2007-12-13 21:28:31
Well...he's always willing to serve Magnagora, and plans to do the power quests and etc whenever he can. He's quite friendly. Oh yeah, and also if he takes the skillset, maybe submit some clothing/food/whatever else there is designs.
Unknown2007-12-13 21:38:10
Well, as a Geomancer you'll be expected to fight. So if combat isn't your thing, then stay away from them, cause someone holding a demesne is always a necessity.

Nihilists and Bards however and slip by. Nihilists are the religious figures, so if you enjoy rituals and stuff, you'd fit in, while with bards you get the other artistic aspects as well. And its not that Geomancers don't have that possibility, but there'll be a lot more fighting in your future if you go that route.

Well, on the simplist level, is he very religiously/spiritually oriented? He might prefer the Nihilists. Is he more scholarly? He might prefer the Geomancers. Does he enjoy public performance? He might prefer the Cacophony (I think I misspelled that though! laugh.gif )

I just joined the Nihilist guild. I personally like it, but they are really strict and have a lot of rules. If you can handle that and are into their background with the Demon Lords and what not, you should be fine.

I'm generally not asked to hold a demesne, actually. Or I wasn't when I was actually active. My general combat ineptitude might have had something to do with that.

It's not really strictess, yea we have rules but I see it as more being a RP idea of keeping an appropriate public face on the guild.

As for guilds to pick, any Magnagora guild will have a good level of RP. Nihilists have rituals and the demon Lords. I know Geomancers do some rituals, Ur'Guard have a great boot camp and army feel to it, the Cacophony are the bards and do try to do plays and such. You can not do wrong RP wise so you should just pick one that sounds the best to you.

If you want to advance past GR2 or GR3 EVER, don't go Nihilist unless you plan on running for one of the top three positions...the Rp also kind of died when Sthai left. Also...now that Lyco left...there is no one to learn combat from in the Guild.

Geomancers are cool, but be prepared to deal with people like Revan and Gabranth. If you get along with them, woo, if you don't...be prepared for hell. Oh and people blaming a loss (raid or defense) because your couldn't/didn't meld for some reason or another comes with the Geo territory...and people screaming MELD MELD MELD constantly. Veonira is an awesome GM though.

Ur'guard...I always wanted to go Ur'guard. The structure is really good and they have people like Breuul running the Guild, and Shikha/Vathael to teach you combat. And you are tanky. Oh so tanky.

Bards have the best RP in Mag IMO.

Generally when speak to younguns I find it is better for all involved that when giving advice on the negatives of a guild more focus should be placed upon the rp aspects of the guild that the novice might not feel attracted to and less upon what you personally hate about certain people within the guild. It's not really helpful to anyone other than yourself to do so.

While ranting about personal experiences is good for getting things off your chest, it doesn't really benefit Lusternia overall.

ACtually, in this case, it's pretty much true. The supposed rework of the system to advance has been in limbo for forever and a day.

Anyway, your best bet is just to pick a guild you like (In terms of skills and overall image), and interact as little as possible. The moment you interact with someone and disagree with them, you'll have an enemy who goes out of their way to muck with you. There are always people who will kill your play experience ina guild - if you confine yourself, as much as possible, to city interactions you'll be able to dodge really irritating people and avoid a lot of the drama that comes in the guild. You'll probably end up making friends with them outside the guild channel, too.

And don't tell me it isn't there, regardless of the way you choose to play it.
Unknown2007-12-14 15:47:08
Well, the Geomancers have Veonira. The Nihilists have Nariah. Either way, you end up with someone cool who works hard for their guild whose name ends with an -ia sort of sound.
Nariah2007-12-14 16:57:56
You should really tell us more about what you enjoy doing and what you wish your character to achieve. Then again, you can be a great scholar/writer in whichever Guild you are, or a great, disciplined defender of the Engine in the Nihilists as much as in the Ur'Guard. However, if 'mindless combat' is all you will focus on in, for example, the Nihilists and you won't be able to stutter out what Duke Ashtorath teaches us then you won't find advancement easy. The same goes for being a totally non-combat oriented Ur'Guard - your guild mates will not think of you highly. But perhaps you might enjoy such roleplay and don't play 'to win'. tongue.gif Think along those lines.

PS. Thank you Celina and Yrael for being so very up to date.

Gee thanks, just because I managed to drive you away is no reason to spite the guild.

From what I've heard most guilds are fairly similar right now, ur'Guard have lost their soldiery feel of late and will be severely drained once monks come out, but like Nihilists who have had a surge of people of late have room to proove yourself in. Cacophony are doing well and the Geos are kinda stagnant, but can't do much without people. So join them!
Unknown2007-12-14 19:31:38
I'm planning to go Cacophony, but if the Geomancers really are that low on members...but I should warn you...I'm not the 'scholarly' type.

You don't have to be. We have scholarly people, and we have people who just focus on combat (Revan, Destridas, Xanon, etc.) I wouldn't say we're stagnant, I think everyone has just been busy recently with school/holidays approaching.

You should go where ever you think you will have the most fun.

Cacophony here I come then!
Revan2007-12-14 19:38:41
Geomancers are awesome. Don't let Bianca fool you! Father Revan is a loving, kind old man who will grasp your hand tenderly, guiding you through your delicate childhood with a care seen largely on some Dateline NBC episodes. Veonira is a strict donimatrx who will whip you simply because she's bored... she will also be one of the best GMs in the game wink.gif The geos is a crazy crazy guild and i'm proud to say i've been a part of it since the game came out (well, very close to it).

The Nihilists, I feel, have the greatest RP potential out of all the guilds because they really tie the city together with their religion. othero's pretty cool and Nariah's simply the best because of her cool, calculated RP. She really makes the Nihilists shine.
