8.2.3.5 THE NINJAKARI GUILD

Guildmaster: Vacant
Guild Administrator: Vacant
Guild Champion: Vacant
Divine Patron: Vacant
Guild Envoy: Vacant
Security: (nobody)
Protectors: (nobody)
Secretaries: (nobody)
Undersecretaries: (nobody)
Guild Archivists: (nobody)

The Ninjakari are the monks of Magnagora, trained in the deadly arts of
the jakari, a chain weapon. Their monk school was founded after the
discovery of the illithoid, who imparted their arts to the Magnagorans,
sensing close allies in their mutual goals. The Ninjakari are stealthy
warriors, preferring to strike from the shadows when least expected than
engage the enemy directly, disdaining those who lack subtlety in their
methods.

The Ninjakari are of the monk archetype, studying Kata and then
specializing in Ninjakari as their primary skill. They also study Stealth,
the practice of clandestine espionage and subterfuge, and can choose
to study either Acrobatics or Psionics - the latter specializing into
Psychometabolism.

Glom gets them last. sad.gif

This may not have been such a good idea with people already complaining that monks need fixing. It's not Harmony, though... maybe Stealth is a better secondary, balance-wise?

Ninjakari?

I still remember that thread where someone suggested "Ninjaka". Looks like they got it.
Arix2007-12-15 03:05:24
So, should I keep Avery or no?
Verithrax2007-12-15 03:11:58
I made my "current" character in hopes of joining a monk guild when it came out... but really, now I've come to realise it's too little, too late, to get my interest in the game back. Sorry. sad.gif
Veonira2007-12-15 03:13:01
I want to join soooo bad, but I feel too guilty leaving the Geomancers with basically no competent fighters.
Arix2007-12-15 03:14:49
I left Geo's cuz they were better off without me
Eldanien2007-12-15 03:15:13
I want to have Eldanien join too. Every aspect of that guild just seems way too neat in my mind, except... well... Magnagora.

Yeah, Magnagora's just TOO neat for you.
Eldanien2007-12-15 03:19:55
Just not my cup of tea. I've had Magnagoran alts and the atmosphere didn't suit me. Heh, I even remember interacting with Veo as a Geo.

Veo the Geo. That has a ring to it.

I have stated monks need fixing since Shofangi, this isnt anything new and I discouraged before we opened Celests whichi was more powerful than Shofangi with more bugs (perma anythings). So now Magnagora is getting theres.. suprise!

People will 'adjust' to the rate of death when like 3 monks all hit at once in time I imagine.

While you do have to look at guild skills as a whole (along with any synergies from common skills) to determine potency of a guild relative to the others, Harmony doesn't tend to be where the concerns are with Harmony Monks. Most of it came from Kata and specs. Particularly, the speed, damage and general hindering ability.

Disregarding the Harmony/Stealth comparison, it seems like Ninjakari will have even better hindering capability than the existing two monk guilds, if -only- because they will probably be able to stack both grapple and chain entanglement in one form. If they're both considered grappling, I'd be upset. If they're not... I'd be upset, heh. Time will tell how this turns out. I really like the concept of the chain as kata weapon, though.

Harmony vs Stealth... that just looks like it's begging for a lot of imbalance, to one direction or the other. The powerhouses of Harmony are hunting benefit, the ability to elect to have passive peace or chill on being attacked, and possibly the mantra banish (particularly if Stealth monks phase - that would be a neat mirror opposition). In order for Stealth to be worth having, it would wind up creating such a huge strategic and tactical value as opposed to typical toe-to-two combat utility that the two would be very disparate and hard to balance against each other. They'd wind up 'OP' to each other - Harmony monks having the advantage toe-to-toe and Stealth monks therefore having ways around that. I can already imagine both sides screaming nerf.

This is all supposition of course, but I'm both thrilled to see them released and a bit anxious about all the ranting likely to take place.

So everyone decided to go with the Ninja name? laugh.gif Well I'm glad they're finally released, but to be honest I've been eyeing the Glom one quickexit.gif

Btw what kind of weapon is the jakari?

Edit: -gasp- just realized that people are now going to start using ninja in their everyday Lusternian vernacular *shudder*
Arix2007-12-15 03:54:22
it's a chain blade. Picture Kratos in a ninja suit
Noola2007-12-15 04:05:54
Is it like that chain thing that Gogo Yubari uses in Kill Bill Vol 1?

This: GoGo vs Bride
Veonira2007-12-15 04:16:53
It's basically this:

Which is AWESOME
Malicia2007-12-15 04:17:12
The name Ninjakari will attract a lot of ninja-lovers, someone pointed out to me. It's a cool name though. Congrats to Magnagora. Next up is Glommie.

Edit: Aren't we all looking forward to the continued rants about monks?
Eldanien2007-12-15 04:17:33
What I'm picturing is more... chain with a big knife blade on the end, rather than a morning star. I could be wrong, though.

Oh, it prolly is. Or that thing that's similar to what Gogo uses, but prolly more realistic, that Veo suggested. But I love that movie and especially that fight scene, so when I read ninja and chain... the Gogo fight was what popped into my head first. laugh.gif
