I really enjoyed this movie! I spent nearly the whole movie holding my breath just knowing disaster was going to befall the guy at any moment.
I really thought it was well done and Will Smith did an amazing job playing the role of someone who's been completely cut off from human interaction and under constant threat of death. There was one point of the movie that made me cry like a little girl, but I love that in a movie.
Anyone else see it?
Edit, oh, and I've never read the book it's based on, so I don't know how it compares.

It didn't really catch my interest when I stumbled upon an info about it before... felt like 'seen that already', there was this '28 Days Later' movie...
But if you say it's good, I'll check it out. Gets a high note on imdb too, though I can't say I trust their ratings too much.
Hope you don't get mad for a slight derailing, just wanted to say that 'The Man From Earth' is a really captivating movie, if you haven't seen it yet (though I've heard few negative opinions too - I disagree with them but they're there).

Well, considering the book was from like.. the 50's.
Anyway, I wanna see it, but more I want to see the 6min Dark Knight Prologue that is showing before it in IMAX theaters. Unfortunately we don't have any IMAX theaters near me, and its not online yet.. like.. wtf.

Yeah, the ending was a little weak compaired to the rest of the movie. But the rest of the movie was so good, I forgive it.

I almost cried too, I felt like a loser...
The movie was really good, up till the end. The book's ending is much better, imho.

hmmm this aint out 'til boxing day over here in the UK but it looks fantastic. I really like watching Will Smith as he's an all round fantastic actor, and it's great to see him doing more serious roles.
Asarnil2007-12-17 12:13:22
I loathed it - they screwed around with the ending way too much.
Veonira2007-12-17 15:16:44
I can't wait to see it!
Daganev2007-12-17 18:20:35
I havn't seen the movie yet, just the trailers, but I wanted to point out that the real reason this movie is/is going to be so popular is because its the same story line as the "future" in Heroes, and since that story line got cut short, people are itching to see what newyork after a virus looks like

Maybe that's it! Course, I'm not sure that the results of the virus are the same in I Am Legend and Heroes.

I've only seen the trailers but it reminds me a LOT of Omega Man.
In the 70's, Charleton Heston did three really good scifi movies: Soylent Green, Planet of the Apes, and Omega Man. Omega Man is probably considered the worst of the lot. Soylent Green is the best in terms of story (based on a Harry Harrison novella). Planet of the Apes obviously became the most popular.

Omega Man was a film of I Am Legend (book). This is just a new film.

I love zombies... but casting Will Smith into such a movie just doesn't seem to fit in my mind. I guess I'll just have to see it myself though! A bunch of friends want to see 'The Golden Compass' later and I'd rather watch any other movie besides that
And wow, the other day I was just reading about Soylent Green! If I can find a copy of that somewhere then that would be a most interesting viewing experience.

I think he did a really good job, I think you'll like him in it - unless you just don't like Will Smith, of course . And once the premise of the book was explained to me (haven't read it) I can see how the movie is different - but honestly, I prefer the differences. I like the way it ended story-wise, it was the execution that was a little weak in comparison to the rest of the movie, IMO.

The question is, does Will Smith play an actual character (Bagger Vance, Pursuit of Happyness, etc) or does Will Smith play Will Smith (MiB films, "I, Robot", Independence Day, etc thislistisfarlargerthanthefirstdoyouseeatrend)?

I thought his character was very well played, other than that, not sure what you mean.

Surely you jest. What I mean is that Will Smith plays Will Smith, not an actual character, in the majority of his films.

I enjoy Will Smith in all the movies I've seen him in. I think he plays the character the movie calls for. And I like those movies. I've never seen Will Smith in a movie and gone, wow... that sucked.
Anyway, I think he did exceptionally well in this role. I guess though, that you'll have to see it for yourself. I have a feeling that for you, the validity of my opinion vanished when I admitted to liking Will Smith in every movie I've seen him in.
