That film has one of the best Dragons I've ever seen. I still have memories of Smaug and how he used his "headlight vision" looking around. That was truly an impressive animated dragon.
The one flaw of the animation is the fact that everybody looks a bit wrinkled. The elves look kinda creepy.

I saw that movie when I was a kid. My dad hated it, because it 'made the elves look ugly and evil' and that was an afront to everything my dad holds dear.

hmmm while it would have been nice having the scouring of the shire in, the ending to RotK was still quite long and overdrawn as it was (30 minutes after the ring is destroyed the film ends).
I dunno I just personally think the ending was more suited and let things end in a more natural way where they return back to where they started...when I read the book I felt shocked that even the hobbits had been affected when all the way through they were the unknown, naive and peaceful creatures. I do not think that would have been transfered onto the big screen very well when the non-LotR fans would have been screaming "When will this end?"

He looks like a cat and sounds like a drunkard. Oh, woe.
