Yeah a native bonus for illithoid is in no way going to make me want to play that race. IMO they are not a good race as a warrior when I was one. So I am leery of them as a monk. I dropped from 1500 as a PB to 800 a hit when I switched. I realised WOW no thanks!!! smile.gif

Illithoid stealth monks can reach 18 dexterity with acrobatics. It's probably not as good as faeling (Possibly) but they're tankier than faeling (15 constitution is nothing to scoff at) and of course they deal quite ridiculous amounts of damage with kata thanks to high dexterity (And when undead, that's even better).

So they don't even NEED a racial bonus to make good ninja.

Although maybe an accuracy bonus for Lobo with staff and Aslaran with unarmed hits might look cool.

The 'optimal' monk races seem to be Krokani, Loboshigaru, Kephera, Orclach, Taurian. At least from my perspective.

High dex is great, but having high strength with high dex is obviously better. That's krokani and loboshigaru. Kephera is on the list purely for tankiness, a weak point of monks. Orclach for added tankiness, though not so much Dex. Taurian are a surprise here, but they've got a lot going for them with few weak points.

Illithoids lack strength to go with their dex, and the level 2 magic susceptibility is painful. The loboshigaru are equal or better in every way unless the all-languages and mindsense is a major consideration for you.

Aslaran/Faeling can work in certain situations, but in many ways their speed is actually a hindrance. The faster your balance, the less time you have to focus body/writhe or contort out of those kata-killing attacks before your next form comes up. Short stuns are more likely to kill your kata for the same reason. Faelings are amazingly frail and their damage over time is still subpar despite their dexterity, because of how strength factors in. Aslaran are slightly better, but still suffer the same problems in general. If you want a fast race to dominate in one-v-one, faeling looks like the choice to make. Take and hold control of a fight from the outset, don't give your opponent time to get an attack in. But that frailty will be a major issue.

Anyhow... instead of an accuracy boost I'd rather see a small (5%?) wounding boost for the kata-favoring races. I'm not fond of the weapon spec bonuses in general, though. I don't mind seeing races get bonuses dependent on org (if only to promote their existence in places they traditionally favor), but dependent on class doesn't sit well with me. I'd rather see Elfen: +10% health if a member of Serenwilde. Viscanti: +10% to damage output if a member of Magnagora. Et cetera.

Then for those races without active orgs they're strongly affiliated with, give them something like Orclach: +10% Combat, Tae'Dae: +10% Discipline, Mugwump: +10% Magic and Lowmagic/Highmagic. All of these boni, including org-specifics, to be factored into racial balance.

I would -love- to see Humans get +skills (+10% to two of their choice?) instead of +xp. When they got rid of the -xp thing, they forgot to get rid of the +xp thing.

Human stealth monks end up with 18 dex with acrobatics as well, so makes it better being human over illithoid too. (Humans at 95 do at least)

Faelings are good as a jump and crush race with their monk skills.

Oh, probably. But at lower levels illithoids are better, even because they can out-bash humans so the exp advantage is moot.
