We have been asked to suggest replacements for choke (or I suppose a way to not make it as horridly unbalancing).
Throw your ideas out here!
Some ideas kicked around:
*Passive aeon on a tic
*Destroys hexes
*Makes fae leave (these last two to act like retaerdation vibes in achaea where it kills other vibes)
*Make it active aeon
Plot and plan, stay on topic, and keep it civil please.

Active aeon against all enemies in the room would be great!

*Passive aeon on a tic -- Good idea
*Destroys hexes -- WIERD idea, and not very usefull
*Makes fae leave -- BAD idea
*Make it active aeon -- umm it should be different from the moon skill on some level.

Active aeon against all enemies.. hrm.

I'm curious, why must Shadowdancer aeon be different from Moondancer aeon? I'm all for skills being different between guilds, but for example, Celestines and Nihilists use the exact same aeon. Their other abilities is what differentiates their aeon-based tactics.
Or... Hartstone and Blacktalon have yada yada identical, but their other abilities are different.
If Shadowdancer aeon were similar in function to waning (only not revolving around the Moon), would that ruin matters?

They are the same until Night and their exact fae really.
Guardians are same except necro/sac

Celestines and Nihilists use the exact same aeon because Celestines and Nihilists...use the exact same aeon. It's the same tarot skill.

Oh and we have some diff pacts.

What is it with you and just making totally random 'omg give me ideas' threads? Especially when you've pretty much duplicated the same one like 3 times, only to go off and make a new one about a topic most people (envoys) get migraines discussing?
Hazar2008-01-05 00:43:52
It makes him feel important. No harm to it, just don't take it too seriously, smile, wave, move on. Noticing one of these threads is kind of like noticing the wierd guy on the subway who's telling everyone about how JJ Abrams is taking over the world.

Because we're making progress this time!
I like the slower passive aeon ticks, myself.

I understand they're different skills of different specializations. Maybe I should have phrased my thoughts in another way.
Why not make them the same effect, and instead focus on the two guilds' other skills to provide variation between them?
Something as fundamental as aeon is bound to be a center of a lot of bellyaching, and any kind of multi-target aeon seems destined for balance issues. Either it works and is OP, or it doesn't work and is a wasted power. Finding the balance between (useful but not overpowering in group) AND (useful but not overpowering in 1v1) seems difficult. So make their two aeon abilities behave similarly, and rely upon the other guild skills to provide mechanical differences between them.
Both Moon and Night get coning. Is Night coning somehow different from Moon coning? Does it have to be?
The only problem with this change (changing Choke to single-target active aeon) is that it may necessarily require their other skills (mostly fae? dunno here for certain) to change somewhat to better fit with their new aeon method. But I think it would be easier to find an arrangement deemed balanced if you went this way.

I like the idea where it's like choke in its current incarnation, but only affects one target.
That way, since Estarra said that this was a skill that was supposed to make players on even terms and show who is truly the more skilled player (Not my comment! Don't shoot the messenger!), it really would be proof of who is a more skilled combatant. Furthermore, it would remove a lot of the concerns that I have about choke being used in tandem with other abilities like demesnes and colourmaelstrom. Sure, you'd be screwed if it was 1 vs a group, but often times, you're screwed anyway.

I never liked that idea, personally, and numerous other envoys have mentioned that they didn't like it either (hence why it's changed direction now). And no, that wasn't my doing-- I mostly stayed out of it. They went this way on their own.
Shamarah2008-01-05 01:43:59
Man, it's hilarious when people try to fix a skill perceived as overpowered by suggesting something that would be even MORE overpowered. Passive aeon? Ogod.

Actually, passive aeon on everyone isn't more overpowered-- it'd be less so, since everyone has the cure-thing to do every time it ticks instead of just being stuck in choke.
It's "passive aeon on enemies only" that's (much) more powerful.
Xavius2008-01-05 01:51:48
Passive aeon on an 8s timer isn't so bad. Quicksilver doesn't use a balance. I'm not sure what whoever-posted-that was thinking when 5s was suggested. That's ridiculous.

This thread is specifically about choke. No other ideas but choke.
As envoys have been asked -to replace choke-.
We have a special slot on whatever report its in just to add it.
So why did I make a topic about choke? Because the admin want ideas and envoys arent quite sure what to do that wont be suicide for SD, OP against groups, or just wont work.
If you have input for ideas on the thread post them, if you have whining or complaints on topics go to idiots and feel free to fool around there.

Quicksilver is every 5s to take effect I believe, an 8s aeon tic would never aeon anyone.
Xenthos2008-01-05 02:21:08
Passive aeon on an 8s balance is pointless, except for warriors (quicksilver is 5s).
Passive aeon on 5s is the slowest it can be and still afflict, if it's done this way. If it's only on enemies, though... yeah.
